Who's At Door?

My fairy roses are blooming in spite of this horrid weather.
Rain and rain and more rain and then when the sun does show it is hazy from the wildfires. Yesterday in our travels we saw a lot of trees that are starting to change to their fall colors. Not good I would think.

I spy a door?
A little fairy door!

Behind the Astilbes.

Eye spy on our house a paw print!
after 10:30 PM the other night we hear the doorbell at the back door.
We are tucked in the woods and that is pretty late who can it be?
We can look down from our kitchen window to see who is at that door. Guess who?? Yes, the bear was reaching up on the door and hit the doorbell twice.
I read if you soak some rags in ammonia and place them around where the bear has been coming it will repel the bear. Well, it worked last night!
We saw the paw prints on the deck, and they stop right when he gets to the ammonia-soaked rag you can see where he leaves with the muddy prints. It will be some work to keep them around for a bit but hopefully he will give up eventually.

Scones and coffee on the porch...

Some new to me books to read. I just got done watching a World War 2 show so it will be interesting to read about Churchill's wife.

Wow, a bear literally at your door! So glad you found a way to keep him at a distance. Both of the books look interesting. Sounds like your July is going well. See you again soon!

I'd be frightened every day just going outside or having the windows open for a breeze for fear they would enter.

Adventures with bears! You sound very calm considering. And he was polite enough to ring, not just barge in.
Marie Benedict is an intriguing writer, blending history with a bit of conjecture, very readable.
I think you'll like Clementine. I did.

Scary! I am glad y'all are okay.
Good to know about the ammonia.
Being vigilant about wild animals can be stressful. I hope you have alarms things up. Stay safe

I'm no match for a bear encounter and I would be scared to walk alone in a wooded area. He may be spying on you when you go for your walks, be very careful and don't go alone. Can you tell if it's a full-grown bear by the size of his paw print?

My flowers are blooming also despite all the rain we got and barely any sun. I have so many tall flowers that need stalking but this year, some of my peonies got knocked down by heavy rain. I didn't have enough support for all of them. It's been difficult to get the weeding done and my home vegetable garden is no exception.

Hugs,
Julia

Thank you for visiting my blog!

I enjoyed reading your post. That is a brilliant solution to the bear problem but it is scary to have to deal with bears I bet.

I will add your blog to my reading list.

What cultured bears you have over there in your neck of the woods. The bear that would come around to my deck just left a pile of bear poo (and let me tell you, they make big piles) and never rang the bell. 😂 Those scones look amazing. I haven't made any scones in a while but it's been so hot and sticky, I've been more in the mood for homemade ice cream, refrigerator pies, etc. And the next few days are to be hotter still, nearing 90 again. Please send us some of your rain!! (Wow...did I really say that??) Happy 4th! ~Robin~ (PS...I just did a post and when I pulled up my reading list, I almost thought it had duplicated itself as yours was right before mine and our thumbnail photos are eerily similar LOL)

Hi Cathy! A bear? Oh my! I wonder if the ammonia hack would work on deer? We have a family that likes our apples. Our tree is loaded this year and I'm determined to keep the wildlife at bay. I bought some coyote urine spray but it smells so bad I can't stand to be near it! Ha! We are getting rain now and I'm loving it. We had lots of dry weather in June so we're finally getting a nice balance of wet and sun but with that comes the hot and humid and those nasty mosquitoes...oh well, it's summer and I know we'll be complaining around January! Have a wonderful July 4th celebration. I'm trying to keep Annabelle happy during all the fireworks that are already blasting around here.

So glad that bear did not get into your house. That would be scary. We have been plagued with the wildfires too. So bad I wont let Tundra Out by himself. m loving the rai here though as it has been so very dry here. But now it is humid. Janice

Holy hell! I hope he is smarter than your average bear and will give up on your house.
Your roses are so pretty!
Happy 4th to you and hubby.

Oh my goodness! I don't think I would want a bear coming on my porch, either! I do hope he gets the idea, sooner rather than later!

Grace & Peace,
Pam

Thanks for the bear repellent tips. We aren't supposed to have bears, but we had one last year. He ate my birdseed and moved on. If he ever shows up again I know what to do. Your scone looks delicious. We have also had a lot of rain, but it is a nice change from last year when we didn't get a drop. Here is wishing you some sunshine.

A bear ringing your doorbell! I'll have to tell my husband about that. There have been bear sightings around here but we haven't been so lucky/unlucky. From Sunday through last night we had another 2 inches of rain. Where is it all going? At Bone Builders today the ladies who have lived here forever were telling me about the flood of '73 here in the Flat. Hoping that doesn't happen again.

Not sure if that is funny or scary, have never had a bear in our area, that I know of. It is a shame that when we get sun, we get the smoke too, but we had a nice clear day today, so I was able to get some yard work done. I sure hope we get a nicer summer this month. If I could, I would head to Maine for the summer.

Lady Clementine looks good. Sure am glad that you didn't just open the door to the bear! That would be a fright. The ammonia is a good idea. I know it would send me packing!

Oh my gosh! A bear ringing your doorbell! But what a simple rick to keep them away. Hope it works.

Hi! Thank you for stopping at my blog. I'm sorry I'm just returning the visit. I just found your comment in my spam. :(
I love the little fairy door. The bear ringing the doorbell is scary. Glad the ammonia scared him away.
I think the Lady Clementine looks really interesting!
