The Recipe Box

As some of you know I just bought a recipe box filled with
hand written recipes, this is recipe #1. Since we are having a family
gathering tomorrow.

I looked for something sweet that could be a pick and go as we will
be outside. this is called toffee cookies. Success! they are yummy.

1 stick of oleo(I used real butter)
1 cup of brown sugar cook until just bubbles

cover cookie sheet with foil then line pan with about 24 graham crackers.
Pour hot sugar and butter over graham crackers sprinkle with nuts (she used peanuts)
I used mixed nuts chopped and I sprinkled a bit of salt to get the salt/sweet taste.
put in a 350 oven for 7 minutes
(do not over cook)
it is a very humid day with rain off and on so not the best day to make candy but it is very good.
***
I have several casseroles to try in cooler weather.
We are off to gather with family tomorrow, fingers crossed for a good weather day.

A Recipe

My tomatoes have been pitiful this year.
But I got enough to make a batch of sauce and it is yummy.

And I just happen to have found a great hand made pottery pasta bowl
at a church sale for 5.00 It is a hard thing to take a picture of but it is
a beautiful blue.

and I made another zucchini bread with raisins.

And tonight after work and after a lot of expensive fixes to my car.
I met up with my friend at a group antique shop. There was one booth was having
a half price off everything. I found this recipe box priced 2.00 so half off would be 1.00!
It is filled with a life time of hand written recipes. I am going to take some time
and go thought it I am sure I will find lots of great gems, it almost makes
up for the stresses of getting a car fixed.(almost:(
I will share any I try.
Have a happy and safe holiday weekend.

We Did Something Very Amazing!!

I am very afraid of heights.

Husband and I got up at 2 Am, to drive about 2 hours ,to be able to drive up to the highest peak in    the north east, 8 miles straight up! MT WASHINGTON! To see the sun rise. They open the gates early
3 times a year and since it was suppose to be clear and beautiful. And since we
have never been to the top we went.

To be able to see this. We could see several states and into Canada.
The white you see is not water it is clouds we were above them.

This is also the place for the highest winds ever recorded on earth. Over 200mph Which may have been broken a year or so ago. This is one of the original buildings that was built up there. as you can see it is chained to the rocks to keep the roof on during the high winds of winter.
They now have newer buildings and run experiments among other things.

When we got to the top it was about 30 and the winds were blowing. We were
dressed for it.

The worst part going down!!!!!! This is a hair pin curve and you can see no
guard rails. The worst part was this part of the road was under construction and when you met
another car you had to get way over in lose dirt. I chose not to look and husband was
trying not to saying anything but when we got to the bottom he said that part scared him.
When you go down you have to pull over in lots of places to let your brakes cool down.
It was an amazing experience and I am so glad I got the courage to go.

After this we joined Miss B and our daughter for an afternoon of Storyland.
needless to say we were super tired when we got home and took naps.
Have a great week everyone!

Zinnias

Zinnias are some of my favorite flowers

They come in all shapes and colors

And make the doorway very happy.

Of course I am very partial to hydrangeas too, it looks like a
good year for them.

My veggies are still limping along. The rain did most of them in.

We are lucky enough to live by the Holderness Science Center.
Miss B and family went on Sunday.

We get free tickets from our local library. Always check with your library
to see what they offer for museums and attractions in your state.

Oh deer he wouldn't look at the camera. There were many, many more animals, we enjoyed
our time with family very much. And speaking of family.....

Miss B in all her glory!

The Last Weeks Of Summer

Up early this morning watching the sun come up. And wishing it wasn't
August. Summer is coming to a close here and it wasn't much of a summer.
Lots of Rain to start with then the humid hot weather of the south (We live
in the north) Then the great weather came and has stayed for awhile.
My veggie garden is limping along but we have zucchini
I made bread from it and it makes a great breakfast.

The kayaking and loons have been wonderful

But the sun sets lower in the sky and the days are shorter.
I am not looking forward to winter and the heating bills.
so I will enjoy what we have now and try to stay in the moment.

What I Did On My Summer Vacation

I cooked a little ok a lot

I made drunken cherries to be opened at Christmas.

and I cooked some more using up some zucchini. This casserole
was very yummy and a great no meat dinner.

I went to the Christmas tree shop and got lots of goodies but this
is the most yummy! if you see it get it great on sandwiches
and I used it on bruschetta. I will try to make a mixture of this at  some point.

We got Miss B overnight, we had so much fun, she is in love with fire trucks!
She has the perfect Pepe for that he has the keys to the fire station.:)

We kayaked a fair amount and tried a new lake it was nice but
the wind kept coming up and the paddle back was a work out.

We became tourist in our own state really our own area. Isn't this beautiful.
This is part of the white Mountains very near us.

I decorated my door! this is a horse collar (really a pony collar) that I wrapped with
battery powered lights and added some ferns from the yard.

We went ta da dump and found a doll house wiring kit
marked 36.95 that I hope we will wire the doll house we started for our
daughter and hope to finish for our grand daughter.
***
I went out to dinner a lot and had wonderful seafood.
I also went to a play with a friend.
I cleaned out cupboards and really cleaned bathrooms.
worked in the gardens and harvested lots of veggies from the our little garden.
***
It was a staycation but a great vacation.
and now I am sad to say I have to go back to work tomorrow  :(
but very glad I have a job to go to.
have a great week everyone!!!!

The Rantings Of An Old Woman

Friday was my daughter's anniversary so we ran to her house
after I got out of work to sit with Miss B so they could go out.
her husband surprised her with a trip to Vegas they left Sunday.
Miss B helped me celebrate my birthday
It was the best birthday present ever to be with her.

Sunday morning husband left me this sweet metal box, I collect them.
He is so thoughtful inside was a new point and shoot camera. Now let me tell you
about the camera issue I have had. I bought myself a new camera in Feb of this year
and by april it was missing. I felt horrible about it, believe me it was a point and shoot
no huge money but still 2 months and it is gone. When husband said "I am going to buy you a
new camera I flatly said no I had the old one that works just fine. The guilt factor about the
missing camera when I thought about it was so over whelming. Husband said many times "Move on  it's gone" So he thought he would move me on but when I saw the camera all I could think about
was him spending money for a camera to replace my carelessness. I tried to act happy but he could
see through me and from there it was one hurt feeling after another I felt like the marie on Raymond always so b-t-c-y. So at the end of the day I kept hearing in my head it's in the chair. I took the seat cushion off no camera ( I had done this before looking for it)I poked my hand in the back and side no camera and THEN I ran my hand on the other side and out pops the camera! All that and I had been sitting on it for months! Then to end the day Husband took me out to a late lunch by the lake we were sitting on the deck in sun enjoying the day a clap of thunder the wind started blowing and some rain showers. that was the end of the day so folks that is no way to have a birthday.

And because we went from 90-100s to 60s we had a camp fire it definitely feels like fall.

Thanks for the birthday wishes I am just glad it is over.

Friends

I am blessed with amazing friends. I know I have said that before but I need to say it again.
On Thursdays I meet up with a very long time friend we hike, swim, or go for drinks and appetizers.

Tonight she had my almost birthday party she gave me that wonderful gift
I have been going to work with no cold packs I think the nurse in her took pity on me.
and then she threw in the skirts that were on the free rack at the thrift.
great for rug hooking!

Thank you for all the well wishes for my Sadie. She is on the mend and doing well.
The vet said put her in her crate 2 hours before the appointment no towel.
if she pees they could get it to test. So that's what we did by the time I got to the vets I was sure she had peed. the vet opened the crate and out came Sadie dripping with pee oh and was she mad.
Her ears were laid back and the vet was laughing so hard they brought in warm wet towels and dry
towels and cleaned her up. I swear she tried to hit the vet in the face with her pee pee tail.
The vet checked her all over and declared "for a cat older than God she is in great shape."
She gave her a shot for her infection and she seems much better.

I am off next week I hope we have good weather I would like to get out and about a bit.
