What the???

A tornado watch!!!??? We just never get them here.
People are closing their stores and restaurants freaked out, I get it.
This is our house and we do have a nice big basement that I hope we will never use for that!
We have been so hot and humid and so much rain! I am trying very hard to not wish the summer away but dang I am over this. This is completely crazy.

Ok garden walk some gardens were lovely in spite of the weather we have gotten this summer. And I did not take as many pictures as I should have. This border garden was nice.

Not sure what this plant is but it has red berries on it in the summer. The homeowner was not there so the docent has no idea what it was, but I liked it for interest.

Lovely use of ferns and their astilbes were beautiful. compared to mine which are puny.

Some houses were not so much the gardens but the settings. Yes, this was on the lake, and some were views of the mountains.

And some had such wonderful garden decorations. I loved this whimsical fence. It was hot!!! and humid!!!! but we saw all 11 gardens I bumped into a lovely lady I knew from rug hooking at her house on the tour. It was nice to chat and catch up. And husband ran into a man he knew at his house from years ago. Small world. We went to lunch and enjoyed the air conditioning and the yummy drinks. We dropped our friends off at home and headed home.
Early evening about 7:30 I walk out onto the porch after locking up around the house and putting out my ammonia to ward off the bear.
And there is the bear walking across in front of the porch. He didn't like the smell of the ammonia down back or around our porch doors, so he was walking round looking for another route. We both started to yell at him to he looked at us like we had lost our minds and slowly sauntered off to the neighbor's house. He has a large patch of raspberries, so I am sure the bear made himself at home. This is a young smaller bear. And he looks harmless enough, but I am sure if you went after him, he would fight back in a big way.
We were feeling brave with the screen between us (so stupid)
Have a wonderful safe week!

From what I can see, it seems your gardens should have been on the tour. The others you showed have nothing on yours LOL. Love your beautiful house. It was good to see the entire setting for perspective - I didn't realize your were on sloped setting. Wow on the bear. He's persistent if nothing else. I hope the tornado doesn't happen. I just mentioned to Janice that our tornado season has been relatively quiet so far and I hope it stays that way. Our weather has been a bit psychotic. We were up to almost 90 again the other day, but tomorrow the high is supposed to be in the 60's. We had one brief little shower and that been in - and, again, no rain in the forecast at least for this coming week. Stay safe ~Robin~

Your walk sounds interesting. Searching for plant names is always fun. Bear issues, glad y'all aren't hurt! I see some folks use an annoying loud horn device that seems to make bears run away. Not sure how neighbors would take it.

Tornado watches in Texas were normal when I lived there. Being a New England person, my first tornado watch, folks got a good laugh out of my hilarious tizzy. I even put on a combat helmut.

oh gosh, I don't think I would be that brave with a bear that close. Lovely gardens. Tornados? Oh goodness, I felt like we watched the weather so much. There were two tornados that took out houses and towns a day after we had made it away. I just felt for the families there. I just don't like those things.
I am glad you have a basement.
Have a wonderful Sunday.

We didn't hear of the tornado warning here. The woman who was to help with coffee hour at church with me this morning called to say she was terribly scared of tornadoes and wasn't leaving her house. She lives in Etna.

Your bear friend is persistent.

I have been thinking about you and other blog friends in New England, specifically Vermont. I hope you continue to be safe. We are having such crazy weather this summer. Global warming, I think. The garden walk looks nice. People have such lovely, creative gardens. It's cool that you and your husband ran into some friends. I hope you have a good and safe week, and that you weather calms down. See you again soon!

A garden tour sounds wonderful. I know of none in my area.
Your house is beautiful. A saltbox is the house of my dreams.
Darn bear. Thankfully the ammonia is doing the trick.

I agree, this heat and rain is killing me. Too hot to do much and rain keeps me in. Hoping we get a nice fall so I can do more camping then. Beautiful gardens and one good thing the rain has bought, more lush yards. Although today, we got a few ponds out there.

Tornado watches are not worrisome to me, it's when it goes to Warning that I keep a closer eye on the weather. But I'm much farther west than you, so have been dealing with them for a long time.
Good that you have a basement, if you're really worried, make sure there's an empty spot in the southwest corner that you can get to, if there's no windows there. Southwest because tornadoes usually move southwest to north east, and if the house should get hit, that corner usually has the least chance of being filled with debris.

Your gardens are lovely. I tried a google image search on that plant, most returns said ragweed, which this is definitely NOT. I hope you can contact the garden owner and find out what it is. I'm glad we don't have bears, raccoons are enough to deal with. Still it's sad that the very few bears that do wander through Iowa are shot on sight.

First - absolutely pea green with envy over your home! Love the color, the setting, the tea-stained bunting, the flowers - oh-so pretty. Second - put that lovely home in New England, and I'm extra envious...on my wish list of places to visit, sigh... Now about that bear, not sure I'd like to worry about that little visitor!

Yes, the weather is so odd this summer...I'm reading about the problems in so many states, and for us, in Ohio, it's been a bit cooler than usual. I always wonder if that will carry over into winter, I guess we'll have to prepare, then wait and see. Mary

Yes, Cathy, this summer has not been the best with so much rain and then humid days. We heard about the tornado watch as we were driving home to Nashua, NH, from a few days on Cape Cod. It rained there as well!

How wonderful that your area has garden tours.
That darn bear is sticking around and will get bigger as summer progress. I have so many destroying critters around here now, raccoons, groundhogs, skunks, and lots of dears, and now my son saw two adult cayotes and a small pup in the field not far from where my potatoes are. Something is picking my unripe blueberries and leaving them on the ground uneaten. Grrr.

Take care and keep the ammonia around.
Hugs, Julia

Your bear situation would freak me out! I love that you shouted at him! And seeing the gardens sounds wonderful. I loved that fence, too. I hope that's the last tornado situation you have. I hate those!

Tornados are pretty common around here and we've had a couple so far but nothing that hit our home or really did much damage anywhere else here. Thankfully! I hope yours doesn't do any damage as your home is truly beautiful! Love the color and the yard is lovely! Garden tours are really fun and can give some good ideas but I'm struggling to keep up with my garden of weedin'! I probably won't be working next summer so that could help. I just ordered some Halloween things that I really don't need but dang the catalogs are too tempting when it comes to Fall! I hope Vermont can get back to normal and all of you are safe. Bears!! I have been fighting off the deer from my apple trees and I thought that was bad! Ha! Take care Cathy!

Your home and yard area look lovely, Cathy, and at times we do miss our VA home and the yard (but not all the work we had to do). We have had a couple of recent tornado warnings, but thankfully no damages. That bear is certainly a bold fellow
