Ice Ice Baby

It started Saturday with about 4 inches of snow and then ice!

Lots and lots of ice. It has just risen above freezing in the past few hours, but it is still drizzle and rain off and on.
I thought it was time to get my germaniums out.
As most of you know I cut them back take the soil off the roots and put them in a big basket in a cool closet for the winter.
Then I give them a drink for about 24 hrs and put them in the soil.
I have never had any issues with them not coming back and they are always bigger and better than the year before. They are all the old fashion red ones. They will be in great shape by the time I can put them outside for the summer.

My sweet friend and I hit the thrift store on Saturday. I got this lap quilt for 4.00 and a large flag bunting for 2.00 that will look great on the front of my porch this year. I also took in a good size box of donations. I did some Easter shopping for my grand's Easter basket at the regular stores. It is getting harder now that she is older.
****
I have my sweet friends coming for a few days in a week. I took a look around and decided I needed to get rid of some winter dirt.
I pulled my stove out and all I can say is holy moly!!!
Dawn power spray and scrub daddy are my friend!!
I also attacked the shower door track with Q-tips. I am not the best house cleaner I keep the clutter down and wipe the surfaces and run a vacuum cleaner now and then.  I have too many things I like to do in a day. I also need to cut my phone time down.
Enough said, I guess.
Have a wonderful week

Snow! Snow! Snow!

I just made it home from Yoga on Monday before the flakes started flying.

5 inches at the end of it. Ugg just when things were melting so nicely.
More coming in Saturday. Welcome to March.

You will get sick of my watercolors lol. But I enjoy it.

Rug hooking today, more progress. This is one horribly drawn pattern, but I will keep going and get out my marker and change some things.

Last night we met family for dinner before this cutie's
band concert. It was nice to see everyone and to see her play her clarinet.
***
After hooking today, I took my sweet friend out for her birthday.
We agreed our numbers are getting bigger we still have spunk.
We shared dinner, a bottle of wine, and a free shot of limoncello.
No getting these old gals down lol.
Have a wonderful week!!!

The Loony Bin

This week's watercolor tries.

My crow melted into some kind of puffer fish, I think.
It has now melted completely. But there is more snow coming in tonight. Not much but one flake at this point is too much.

I keep a bag of vegetable peels in my freezer
and when it is full I make stock from it. I did
have bones from a rotisserie chicken to throw into it too.
I put it in the crockpot cover with water simmer for several hours. and then I strained it.

I got a few quarts of lovely stock from things that usually get thrown away

I made a strawberry galette. The recipe is just ok
I will find another recipe if I ever make it again.

And during all this cooking I dropped a potholder on the
heating element in the oven. It took me a few seconds to get all the racks out to get the potholder out. In the meantime, the house filled with smoke, and it smelled like burning hair (it is wool). Fun times!

We picked up a friend at the airport this week and this life-size moose was in the baggage area. (Made from steel)
We went to lunch at a funny little bar called
The Loony Bin it seats about 25 and it is usually crazy busy, but we got in and had a fun time everyone was so friendly. And the food was good.

A Little Visit

My forsythia branches after all this time has one little bloom. But I have hope♡

With all the rain, fog, and warmer weather the snow is melting and left this spot that looks like a crow to me.
I made the trip to my sweet friend's rug hooking group. She has quite a group there and I got a lovely warm welcome.
After we went to dinner and spent the evening catching up, laughing, and we even painted a bit.

We had such a wonderful time even thought it was just an overnight.
While stopped in traffic I took a picture of this house that was ocean front. It has been up there for a year from the horrid storms we had last winter( not this one)
This quote touched my heart so true for me.

The last day of winter and snow in the forecast for Friday.

Spring is That You?

Yesterday was 60s and lovely today 50s, drizzle, and fog.
The snow is melting very quickly! Yahoo!

Last night was a bit chilly perfect for the fireplace.

We got a lovely visit from my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. My grand came with gifts. She painted the bag and made the coaster. We ordered pizza and our daughter helped her father with his new IPad. She uses one every day and it was a snap for her. He was pretty thrilled with all his help.

I am still painting and treated myself to new brushes.

I did a couple of pages of leaves. These new brushes make great leaves. Then just for fun I made some chicks.

I also bought a weighted vest for walking. I bought it a bit heavy and tried it out for a bit. while it is only 8lbs it is harder than I expected. I will work up to wearing it on my whole walk.

Husband came home with maple syrup that was still warm.
It is syrup season here and by all accounts it is flowing pretty freely.
Remember 40 gallons of sap equals 1 gallon of syrup. This was a gift but that is why it is so expensive. (No imitation syrup shall ever be in this house lol ) We tried it out on French toast made from my homemade bread this morning yummmmmmm!

Tomorrow is St Patrick's day. I gave my grand and daughter socks like these to wear to school. I plan on making a boiled dinner. Not my husband's favorite but oh I love it so much. It will be hard to scale it down as it usually makes so much.

I am going to see one of my sweet friends this week. I am going to visit her hooking group and Wed. we pick up my other sweet friend from the airport. It will be nice to have her back in NH.
I did stay up to see the eclipse no pictures, but the moon did turn very red. It was worth staying up for.
A nice week weather wise ahead.
Have a great week!

Good Weather ahead

I have seen a couple of sunrises this week always beautiful.
And a bit of snow.
I am painting a page a day. Some are fun and some are just practicing brush strokes.
And I have started a dish cloth. I have already made a mistake but who cares, I am the one using it.

And a full moon is on the way with the total eclipse very early Friday morning.
             *************
I had rug hooking today.
And I am back to walking daily.
I have a few winter lbs to lose.
       Have a wonderful week

My Winter Of Discoveries

I was gifted some tea this week. The fortune on the tag was interesting.

I tried making paper.
I like nothing about the process. This will be it for me.

My husband made a few of us flower presses.
I have learned I need to select bright colored flowers.

At my watercolor class she wanted us to relax, be free, and enjoy the process.

Relaxing and just going with the flow is not the easiest thing for me.

I have decided I will paint at least one page a day.
Today I did a few extra. I am enjoying painting, and most of it will not see the light of day.

I am still working on hooking. I am not sold on the light purple.
I have made some new friends this winter at rug hooking class.
We met for lunch on Friday it was fun and lots of laughs.

We have lost a lot of snow from the rains that came in.
Sadly, the winds and cold weather came in behind it.
And we are in for a dusting of snow tonight.  We can get some of our biggest storms this month. But the sun is warmer, and it melts faster.
Thankfully there is warm weather coming in this week.

Thank you all so much for all the wonderful comments and visits.
I appreciate you all so much!
Have a wonderful week!!

A Cold Rain

I have been getting to the end of my freezer. I found a bag of blueberries from last summer's picking. A blueberry coffee cake was just what I needed. It is already almost gone. I am getting ready to restock cupboards and freezer, but I wanted to make sure we use up what we had first.
And talk about creating my Sweet B did this in art class in school!!!
My friend said "I think she got the whole family's talent" I don't think she is wrong. This grandchild blows me away every day.
I have a watercolor class tomorrow. I am looking forward to it. I have warned this teacher I have never done this before. she laughed and said don't worry we will have fun.

This is outside our skylight; it is hard to see the rain drops but it is raining on all the snow that is on the ground. It is also 35 degrees, so you can just imagine how cold and damp it is.
I have done a bit of laundry and now I am in my rug room listening to music and hooking a bit. It feels good to be quiet
I am meeting a few friends for lunch on Friday should be fun.
Have a wonderful week!
