The Wisdom Of Pink Sparkly Sneakers

This is our skylight after rain brrrrr
We have lost a lot of snow but still no sign of the lawn.

I have been really trying to save money and since food and heating oil seems
to be our largest expenses.
planned my meals for the week and took off to the grocery store. Because I was there early
I followed the guy that was marking down the meat all the way down the meat case. I did not plan on getting
t bones but because they were marked down to 7.00 each. I splurged. we had steak for dinner, then today
I took the left overs of  the one steak we cooked and threw them in a pot and added stew beef.

All I can say is yummmmmm

I also made home made bread it didn't come out like I planned but I only
had quick yeast and it called for regular yeast but it still is very good.

And to top it off I made peanut butter cookies.

We had our little grand daughter this weekend. she showed up in pink sparkly
sneakers, and a load of wisdom to share for one little 3 year old.
It was a beautiful day so we took out her trike. She peddled so hard her sparkly
sneakers were a flashy blur. She had to stop along the way to pick up sparkly rocks and
old wet leaves to put on the back of her trike. "They are beautiful Grammy". Before we went
in the house we had to put her treasures on the mail box so the birds could see her collection and they could take them to make their nest
pretty.(swear her idea)
We had tea parties, a trip to the ice cream store, and the thrift store.
All the while she was letting me in on her bits of wisdom.

Boring...

A lot of people I know are leaving this weekend for warmer parts
for a week hey....
wait for me!!!!

We have gotten snow, snow and more snow.

Yep 2 feet on tn the table....

so that is what I have been doing my friends shoveling, roof raking, and complaining about the snow.

Today husband helped out and ran the dish washer. As I was unloading I was shocked at
how many dishes didn't get clean. That is until I got to the bottom of the dish washer.

I think we will be able to reuse this soap again :) I guess my job is safe.
I do love that he is making the effort to help.

Happy President's Weekend...

We have been having a lot of snow about 14 inches came in on Thur into Friday.
This poor little female cardinal was trying to get through it.

So I strapped on my snow shoes and just went around our property.
It was good to get out in the sunshine.

We also hit the ta da dump. I got a tea set for Miss B.
One plate was broken and the top of the sugar bowl
was missing but still enough to have fun with.

This is a ceramic tile I though was so pretty.
I think if husband makes a wooden frame for it It would look great
hanging up.

I also found this piece of Wedgwood in perfect shape.
I cleaned it up and it came out great. My grandmother use to
love this type of jasper ware. I believe it is a plant pot.

And I found this great little vintage Santa.
He has made in japan sticker on the back along with his little
sack that held the candy he came with. I believe he is probably from the 50's

And last but not least this light bulb. it is a yellow bulb that has
the latex coating. It works!
All of this for free. The worst thing was a woman was in the swap shop
when when I walked in, she had a whole stack of things she kept saying this is all mine.
Lord help me I wanted to steal a few things but I didn't:) I didn't want a war at
the local dump.

I spend the day in my pjs and finished my rug, ok it is not quite bound yet.
but as far as hooking and steaming it is done. Now if I could get the hang of
punch needle I would like to do a little project.

The days are getting longer which makes me so very happy, the darkness is the
worst part of winter for me.

Have a wonderful week everyone.

The Quiet Route....

Oh my word stay out of the grocery stores you will get trampled!

I took the quiet route yesterday and hit up the library.

I am at the back ground of my rug I thought I would use up
some pieces of  tan I have. I may pull out the darker ones now that
I see this picture.

Since it is snowing hard outside, I have made myself a little punch (crystal light) and a
fresh strawberry makes me feel better about being house bound.

The house is well stocked with food, candles, flashlights,
and lots of wood for the beast in the basement, in case the worse happens a
power outage. We are on a small dead end of road so we are last to get power back after we lose it.
Happy Valentines Everyone!

Making Tracks

I was lucky enough to go snow shoeing with my sweet friend Cathy
Our first trek of the season was into this waterfall as you can see not much water was running.

This is what it looked like the last time we hiked in.

Saturday was a beautiful winter day. So my friend Cathy and I
headed out on the lake in our snow shoes

It couldn't have been more beautiful we went pretty far across the lake.
There were people ice fishing (big tournament this weekend),
people skating, snowmobiling, and 4 wheeling. but as you can see it was still pretty quiet out there.
And it felt good to have the sun on our faces.

This book is so wonderful, I try to read before bed but since I have been getting all of this exercise
I fall asleep the first paragraph.

Cooking Mishaps

This is my motto so I am not sure what in the heck happened this week???

First I tried to make brownies I know I know laugh if you must..
Then I tried to make ginger cookies I had whole wheat flour what could be
the difference??? yeck!!!!

So I made a chocolate cream pie ahhhh success!

Well it snowed today about 6 inches. I made it into work
but no one else decided to shop so I did paper work and watched the birds.
this was a tree full of  robins I think about 50-60 were in the trees eating berries.
poor little things looking for spring.

So if you would like to try my brownies or have a piece of pie, we'll leave the
 light on for ya.

Groundhog Day....

Groundhogs need shovels to exit hovels. Sunny and cold but looking fine for Valentines. Mild, then
piled! Snowplows rumble, temperatures tumble. Awake to flakes. Bitter breezes summon sneezes.
(The Old Farmer's Almanac prediction for Feburary)

Today was a great day for making snow spiders!
(Her creation I loved it)

And family sledding!

A great day for eating whoopie Pies....

And gifts. A picture my daughter took of us on the Santa train. She had
it put on canvas for us. I love B's expression:)

I went to my rug guilds meeting on Saturday. I signed up for a class on faces next month!
what have I done! it will be in a 3 cut yikes! This guild has a lot of fine shading hookers.
I am one of the few that hooks wide cut, so I will stretch just how far we shall see.
Have a great week everyone (I will be watching Downton Abby tonight in spite of the super bowl.)
