A Lot Happening At Acorn Hollow

David thought since I have been so stressed and had to go back to work after
6 days out. He would make me dinner. Who could resist this? Not me! He found the
recipe in the old farmers almanac. it is a meat pie with carrots, celery, potatoes and onions.
I was surprised and very happy to have dinner ready when I walked in.

He also bought us a couple of slices of cheese cake. As you can
see he has the oxygen on BUT the good news is he is off oxygen as of today.
The nurse had him running up and down the hall before she would say it is
ok to be off the oxygen! We went to Boston today of course game 6 of the world
series is being played there today, Pres. Obama was in town, and there is a concert.
So to say it was busy was an understatement.

When we got home I made cookies these are my own creation.
My favorite ginger cookie with a pumpkin kiss in the middle.
It is so yummy if you would like my ginger cookie recipe let me know.

There were snowflakes in the air today so our yard is looking
a lot like winter. I still love the birches no matter what the season.

I keep my cone flower stems up till spring the little birds love the seeds all winter.

An of course our fire pit may get a fire or two before winter.
Well it is a long winded post so I will say goodnight
Go Red Soxs!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Saturday was a nice day so I did some yard work and pulled some of the
last of our carrots and I found one cuke among the dead plants I pulled out.
I have no idea what it will taste like, but the carrots are sweet and tender and oh so yummy.

I made my version of a chicken pot pie with some of the carrots added.
It was a cold chilly night so it tasted so good.

And look who came to visit!!!! Her Mom and Dad put in some
of our wood for pepe.  She has a chocolate face from a donut.
***
There was a hook in this weekend that I was suppose to go to I
just couldn't take the chance to get something from being in a crowd and
bring it home to David. I thought about it all day:( I have not been able to attend
anything from my guild this fall because of sickness or other obligations. So I dug out
my hooking and hooked while watching the world series. The hooking was good
but the game was not. I sit here now watching football and it is a pretty sad too.
***
It is back to work tomorrow for a couple of days then we go to Boston.
David is feeling better, he is on steroids for his lungs and of course
they are making him feel pretty good right now. He is still shocked at how
tired and weak he feels which is really no shock after what he has been through.
He is hoping to be taken off the oxygen soon I hope so for his sake.
Have a great week everyone!

Just do your best today and tomorrow will come-tomorrow's going to be a busy day, a happy day.

Getting Comfy

I thought I would pull out some of my fall things to make us feel cozy.

I have been looking for this and it is always sold out.
It makes my morning coffee so much better.
Anything pumpkin makes me very happy.

I make a sour cream apple pie. I had a cup of sour cream left I
needed to use up. It is ok but I prefer a traditional apple pie.

When we were in Boston I had to walk this street to get to the
place I stayed at night. It is a beautiful street with lots of wonderful
architecture, and look at those street lights. If you were to live on this street it
would be very expensive. It is the beacon hill area of Boston.

This is one of the views from the 10th floor of Mass General.
And this is the view from our kitchen! So happy to be home.
But very thankful for the Drs and Staff in Boston.
David still has a ways to go but being home is good for the soul.

Boston

This is what is happening in Boston. The Red Sox's won big!

and the Patriots lost badly in over time.
and David is a bit better. there has been improvement yesterday and today.
a whole week after being hospitalized. They still are not super sure of
what it is. but it is some kind of pneumonia. if he continues to improve he will go home
on Friday with oxygen for a month or less if all goes well. This is something they have
not seen before because all tests came back negative but they found a marker in
his blood.
Thank you so much for the thoughts and prayers I know each one is helping.
I will keep you up to date as time goes on. Again you are amazing group of people
and it is a blessing to be a part of it.

Prayers

This is Mass General Hospital and this is our new home for awhile.
David became sick and tomorrow it will be 2 weeks since he has been sick.
He was transferred from another hospital Thursday night to Boston and here we are.
they have no idea what is going on with his body and he has every test
known to man but still no cure it started out as pneumonia they thought
since you all were so great when he had his transplant  with all of your prayers and well
wishes so I am coming to you for more prayers he needs them so much.
I am beside myself with worry. Thank you for every little thought and prayer you can give him.

Church Sale

On Thursday a friend and I went to a church sale. I think we
did ok. I got this kitty meow piece see kitty in with santa? .50 cents.

Then I got some holiday things. The old Christmas candles I remember
my grandmother having. she never burned hers either just for show.
the little Santa is chalk ware from Holland.

A couple of vintage canning jars. I like to put my rice, and different grains in

Some movies for when we are house bound.

I got this little rock hand painted like a bunny at a yard sale a couple
of weeks ago. I think he will look great near our pond.
One of my favorite thrift stores (where I got this peeler)
gives away apples, really good apples, heirlooms. I filled a bag
and made....

an apple pie. I found this one on a blog I think it is good but
I did make some changes. I do not like a super sweet pie.
for the apple mixture I used a 1/4 cup sugar instead of 1/2 cup
and the topping I would have used brown sugar instead of white.
****
It has been a though week David has been very sick all week.
He did see the Dr and they gave him something but it doesn't seem to be
working. Plus Daughter has been sick.
So I have been a bit anxious and over whelmed.
I hope you are all healthy and enjoying your holiday weekend

Home again!

Our trip to Niagara was interesting. We have never been before.

And this was the view all the way there. There were so many corn fields
and farms. We stopped at a rest stop on the through way and bought some
squash from an Amish young man. This was the only sun
we saw the entire time. Rain or clouds were all we got. I was also shocked at
how run down the area was. There were a lot of closed store fronts.
But we found a culinary arts school that was yummy and the casino.
We had never been to a casino so I played the 50 cent slots and won 80.00 yahoo.
***
Frost warning tonight so I made a vat of pesto with all the left over
basil in the garden,it will taste yummy this winter.
The last fair of the season is in our area this weekend,so we are going with
Miss B and her parents. I am looking forward to seeing them all.
Have a great week!
