The Recipe Box

As some of you may remember I bought this recipe box at
an antique store for 1.00 I have tried some of them with so so results.

Tonight we hit the jackpot with this one! It is called chicken crescent squares.
I roasted a chicken over the weekend and had some, ok a lot of chicken to use up.

It is a keeper for sure I will make some changes next time only to change it up
not because I didn't like it. I will put the recipe at the end of this post.

Tonight on my way out of work I saw this. I couldn't resist taking a picture
even though it was cold and blowing pretty hard.
Red skies at night.... into the deep freeze for the next two days.
****
This serves 8 I cut it in half for us
Mix together well
6 oz of cream cheese softened
4 Tablespoons of butter melted
4 Cups of chopped chicken meat
1/4 Cup of milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp celery seed
2Tbls. grated onion
2Tabls of pimento chopped(I didn't use this)
****
2) 8oz crescent rolls
keep 2 triangles together and roll out gently to try and make a square.
Making sure that the perforations are sealed
so you would get 4 squares per package of rolls
***
fill squares with a good helping of chicken mixture about 2+ tablespoons
pull all the ends to the top and seal (like a hobo bag.)
****
I brushed each package with olive oil and sprinkled with pepperidge farms
stuffing.
bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes
***
heat up a can of cream of mushroom soup with 1/3 cup of milk and drizzle over the cooked squares
***
I think for some of the changes I may put dried cranberries in the mix.
or maybe celery and a bit of garlic, it was very good and worth the try.
I also believe any left over meats could be used.

A Penny Saved....

Lucky to have a  Friend with chickens who shares her bounty yummmmm

I made a Frittata that had spaghetti and vegetables with a generous
helping of cheese on the top. I will make it again but without the spaghetti and
more veggies. A really inexpensive dinner with lots left over.

I started up the old bread machine. (A yard sale find a few years ago)
There is nothing like warm bead for dinner:)

I found the recipe in All you. I get a free subscription with coke caps.
I don't drink much soda but if you tell people that you are collecting something
it is amazing how many you will get donated. You just enter the code in the cap
on the website www.mycokerewards.com and reap the rewards. I have gotten several free
magazines through that.

I also pick up my grocery store free magazine, it always has great
coupons and recipes.

I hit the library this week. The book" Inspired You" is written by the blogger Miss Mustard Seed.
It is a beautiful book and I have enjoyed reading it. The Victoria has the designer from Downton
Abby in it. One of the reasons I love that show is because of how beautiful it is, and if you
haven't read Sara Allen Addison yet she is a fun and magical must read.

I am hooking again slow but sure. This pattern was given to me
by a very good hooking friend.

I have bought some of the wool but not all. I hooked this corner
with a grayish brown I don't like it so out it comes.
Those are my bargains for this week. It has been extremely cold
and it is snowing right now.
***
I went to a couple of movies in the past week.
of course matinee (cheaper)
Saving Mr Banks I enjoyed ,And August: Osage County
which is very dark, the acting is great, the story is very very dark
not sure I really liked it.

Have a wonderful weekend!
Welcome to my new followers!

Free....

Life has lots of minutes in it that are free for the taking.
These free memories will last a light time....

Free God given beauty.....

I am blessed with friends who seem to be in the right place at the
right time! From the free rack at the thrift plus 2 white skirts and a red one still in the laundry.
All mine,All wool, and All Free!

One of the blessings of small town life is Ta Da Dump.
I snatched 2 pairs of sunglasses for B and a pottery mug.
Yes you guessed it free:)

I have been making hot chocolate from the side of the Hershery baking chocolate.
I will never purchase a mix again, while not free it has been right under my nose all of these years.
So much better why pay more for mixes?
What was free in your day?

Catching Up...

We have been one big block of ice! It warmed up and rained
and rained a lot! so we have lost at least half of our snow.
there is still a lot of ice. I would take 2 feet of snow over all of this ice.

When my brother was here at Christmas we drove down the Kanc
a road that winds through the White mountains of NH.
Lots of hiking and beautiful views.

We went on the Santa train with our Miss B just before Christmas,I love this picture she is
telling Santa what she wanted for Christmas. Now before she goes to bed she
asks her parents every night if it is Christmas eve. Gotta love that magic.

As a Christmas present for my brother My husband made him this
bird house out of wine corks.

As you can see the roof and the bottom is made out of an old wine box.
He carried it on the plane and when he got it home there was a lot of interest in this
really great birdhouse.

And look who paid us a visit today!!! I can just smooch
that little face forever.
****
I hope your week has been a good one. I have plans with my Thursday
friend to go snow shoeing in the woods on the full moon this week.
I am hoping it is not to icy.

Proddy

I got 2 new magazines in the mail today. I am so thankful for them as
I am going no where in this cold.

So I went to my guild meeting and there was a proddy class.
so here is what I have done I have not made up my mind about it yet.

This is the pattern. yep a very simple flower it takes an obscene amount
of wool.
****
This has been an interesting week, we have been seeing our oil provider
on the news for non delivery. Because we have a wood stove our oil lasts longer.
So we made the decision to change oil providers. I guess everyone else
did too. Our now oil provider is the largest in the state so the smaller ones are
over taxed. I finally found one that was happy to have our business (after calling several.)
I am thankful that we can pay for oil ( I know there are many who struggle)
I am thankful for the woman who answered the phone at our new provider.
instead of just sighing and saying NO NEW CLIENTS she listened and thanked me
for not being in an emergency and thinking ahead.

So since it is another very cold night I will end with....

It's Falling.....

I have hung up my Santa hat for the season.

We have seen a lot of this. This was taken before the last foot
fell this week.

Tonight this is falling like a stone. This was taken at 6:45
and by the time I write this at 7 15 it is now 6 below.
How low will it go????

But the beast in the basement(our woodstove) is keeping the house
nice and toasty without keeping the oil man in the money.

Our week has been a hard one we miss our Sadie kitty so much.
She always met us at the stairs when we came home and sat in the big window to say
good by in the morning. I have been on line looking at other kitties at the shelter
but I just can't do it. It is not like we are replacing a cup. 20 years is a long time
she was with our daughter when she was 10 a little girl.
When David was so sick she insisted on laying on him or near him.
Oh I could go on but most of you have had the loss of a pet who was more than a pet.
I want to thank you all for your messages it helped more than you know.
***
Tomorrow I will get to go to my rug hooking guild there is a class
on proddy I think it will help to get back to normal. Keep warm everyone.
I am off to find a cozy place to wait out the cold.
