There Is A Weird Energy About

The full moon was this week. I have felt restless and unsettled all week. The amout of sickness and accidents in family and friends close to me is a bit unnerving.
Then appliances are starting to break.
There was an earth quake last night and they think one that was a bit further north a few days ago. It is not unheard of here but certainally unusual.
I could go on. Is it the pull of the moon? Is it the up coming eclipse? Or is it something more? Or just a crazy coincidence?
I am just kidding (maybe)
              Have a great week!

What Went Wrong?

Yes, you little rodent you did lie!!!!

It snowed and it snowed and it snowed all day Sat.
21 inches! The biggest storm all winter!

This sweet little bird kept looking in the window wondering why there are green plants in there. There was a feeding frenzy all day at the feeder.

I can't remember if this is the 3rd or 4th year, but they are back!
from just bare sticks to this, what a money saver. That is what that sweet little bird kept looking at poor little guy.

What do you do on a snowy day?
A large cup of tea and book or...

Beat my husband at baseball! A new game for us made locally. I know nothing about baseball but no matter I won both games.

I had two baking fails this week. This was a carrot cake muffin I got the recipe online. Not sure what went wrong but in the garbage they went. The second one was a king Arthur Four mix. I still have no idea what went wrong there. I contacted them and they were so wonderful trying to trouble shoot it for me and they are replacing that scone mix. I am a rewards member, and I am so faithful to them for that reason. The personal care you get when you have a question or problem.

We are getting ready for Easter my husband's family comes for egg hunts and dinner (all 26 of them) and it is the one time of year we get to have my daughter and family overnight.
Have a wonderful week!

Syrup Season

On my walk I see this plastic tubing all through the trees on a section of the woods. I know that this is a time saver and helps those with the bigger operations. But I am not a fan of the plastic. I think a good old bucket is best.

The sugar houses just had their open houses for people to see the process. It takes 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup.
There is nothing like pure maple syrup none of that fake stuff for us.

A couple of new potholders to show you.

And just so you don't think that I have given up rug hooking.
in a few weeks I start a three-day class, so I am pulling wool for the pattern I am going to hook.
****
We went out for dinner on St. Patrick's Day I was happy to get corned beef and cabbage. Not my husband's favorite dinner.
As we were going over the menu on the bottom it states that they will add 3% to your tab for those who do not get tipped. (cooks, dishwashers, etc.)
Hmmmm Now when we go out, we tip well. We both figure if you make the decision to eat out you tip well or stay home. But the tipping thing has gone a bit too far, I think. Now if you didn't see the small print on the bottom of the menu you tip on the added 3%.  I know it is not a great amount but really you are tipping on a tip.
I would love to hear your thoughts.

We are expecting snow a little tomorrow and plowable on Saturday.
Hello Spring Is That You?
Have a great week!

May The Luck Of The Irish Possess You

Well what do you know part of the pot of gold!
(I can wish can't I?)

I spent over night with my grand and we made some Easter magic.

Easter crystals or Geodes. A fun project it takes overnight and now we wait for them to dry out to be super sparkly.

She wanted to go shopping so off we went. We went to the lindt store and they have a hot chocolate/ coffee bar. You gather the truffles you want in your drink and they put them in with the coffee or cocoa and the truffles melt. To say they were decadent would be an understatement.

The last dog walk of the evening looked like this so pretty.
The hooking is done and the crochet  binding is done just not the finish on the back. I did the crochet with yarn.  I am going to finish it so a dowel can be slid into the top and bottom so I can hang this crazy lady liberty on my porch in July.
(The color in the photo is not great)

Ok my hamburger casserole
this is for a smaller one
Now take a big breath and know you can change this to how you would like it. I know some of you want exact measurements and do not change it at all but this is great to use your own creativity.

2 pieces of bacon
1 lb of hamburg
1/2 to a whole package of riced cauliflower.
1/2 onion chopped (You could also add peppers, mushrooms, etc)
(I had fresh cauliflower I used about a 1/3 of a head cropped and put it through the food processor raw)
1 1/2 cup of shredded cheese, I used Cheddar
1 tab of sour cream
(use mayo, yogurt, etc)
1/4 tsp of worcheshire sauce
salt and pepper to your taste

I cooked the bacon in my frypan, take it out when done, set aside.
put hamburg, onions in same fry pan (or whatever else)
cook until the hamburg is just done.
take out of pan drain any extra fat left in pan.
put in cauliflower for just 2 to 3 minutes add hamburg back in
add 1 cup of cheese, sour cream, worchestire sauce, S&P.
put into a greased baking pan. I used an 8x8 pan.
Spread it out evenly put the 1/2 cup of cheese on the top.
Put in 400 degree oven for about 20 mins. (Keep checking to see if it is hot and bubbly and the cheese on the top is all melted)
after I take it out of the oven I sprinkled the bacon I cooked and chopped on the top. I also had green onions to use up. Let it sit for at least 5 min.
Because I made this as a burger I served it with shredded lettuce and tomato on the top. I like pickles on my burger husband does not so I put some on mine. Then you can drizzle ketchup, mayo, mustard whatever you like on your burger.

If you want a pizza taste use all the pizza flavors, galic, basil, oregano, etc.  Put mozzarella cheese instead of cheddar and put a bit of tomato sauce instead of sour cream in it. Or let your imagination go wild!
This recipe fed husband and I twice and he loved it.
I did't feel I needed anything with it because of the lettuce and tomato on the top. This is very low carb and has lots of veggies.
(I am sure you can use ground turkey instead of beef if You want.)

Let me know if you make it and how you liked it.

I Thought This Would Be Easy

My first potholder is done and truly I had to fix at least 5 different mistakes. how did I do this as a kid?? I will be trying yarn and wool later on. I have been watching a lot of youtube videos.

I have had a few questions about the flower press. It is an victorian art to press flowers. they were usually pressed like this in a book. Just not with paper towels.

These are fairy roses I have in my garden in the summer. There are so many ways to use them just google pressed flower crafts and you will get lots and lots of ideas.

I thought I would share a recipe I did tonight.
I took fresh cauliflower and put it through the food processor to make it look rice like. Scrambled some hamburg put the two together with some seasoning topped with bacon, cheese, and green onions.
I also put chopped lettuce and tomato on the top with chopped pickles. Such a great way to stretch hamburg and get lots of veggies.

I just wished I had thought to take a picture of it with all the toppings on it. Husband loved it and it was low carb and so tasty.
Let me me know if anyone is interested I will post the recipe.

I am also finishing my Lady Liberty rug. I am trying it the way Michelle Palmer does it. It is a single crochet.

Have a wonderful rest of your week!

March Doing It's Thing

We got about 4 to 5 inches of snow overnight. It's hard to tell because it rained on it so it was like shoveling cement ugg!
Our generator kicked in overnight to keep us going until the lights came back on thankfully it wasn't long.
And tonight the strong winds will come in and everything will freeze solid. Then by the end of the week it will be high 50's! Crazy month!

I oiled some of my chopping boards.

I went back to Littleton on Sat. with my sweet friend we didn't get much but had a nice time. I got this blouse it is from the sundance company and if you have ever seen a catalog of their things holy money! I got this one for 11.00 and I think it will be so sweet with white capris this summer or even jeans.

We took a walk through NH league of craftsmen and wow these rabbits are felted wool!! Just amazing. The potteryI do not know who made it but I loved that too.

The bunnies were felted by a woman named libby and she gives classes here in NH.
Husband has been hard at work making these for me and my friends do you have any idea what they are?? Hint there are 5 individual ones there.

I happened to be in Walmart and found these solar glasses since I will have company during the eclipse I bought us all one. Less than 2.00 a piece.

Time change is messing me up so I am going to have a coffee and think about it.
***
We finished Broadchurch WOW!
We needed a break so we are watching all things great and small on PBS passport from the beginning. We had caught episodes of it now and then but not ever a whole season. We are loving this one such a change from Broadchurch. We will go back to season 2 of Broadchurch after awhile.
***
Well the sun is shining I will take a small walk on our road. The dirt road I walk on I would sink out of sight. It's as bad as I have ever seen it.
Have a wonderful week.

Out To Lunch

I finally got another bottle of mineral oil to oil my wooden utensils.
I love how they look after they are all oiled. They work hard day to day.

And well you know another day another thrift store.
A juicer isn't it darling!!! My old one went in the give away box.
Now I probably use one 3x a year but look how cute.

Husband and I decided to drive north to Littleton for lunch. We had to go through a notch in the mountains and weather gets caught in there all the time, a foggy ride.

It was chilly and raining in Littleton not to much fun but lunch was good. On the way home we see that on our side of the mountains it is sunny and 10 degrees warmer. (we are an hour apart)

Still working on lady liberty, I am ripping out the dark red for the lighter red and getting rid of the yellow. Not sure what else I will change but it's a start.

I made chai flavored banana bread and before I could get it out of the oven I dropped it ugg. I always make 2 small ones instead of one big bread, only one got dropped still good though.
For those that wanted the recipe for the donuts I made last post they are here at king Arthur Flour. Also I had some people who had a hard time getting them out of the pan. I used crisco just a light skim on the pan no sticking, I do not like the sprays they leave a sticky residue.

No big plans ahead we have been watching Broadchurch on the free Roku channel. We have watched 5 of 8 so don't tell me the ending please! I am on the edge of my seat. The Scottish actor David Tenant is so good! And there is a new season of Vera, oooh I lead an exciting life!
Have a great week!

It's March, Beware!

We have ticked over to March. Today is 60's but beware we can get some of our biggest snowstorms in this month. Just when you think spring has sprung you end up shoveling!
Easter is early this year so I hope all the snow is gone and we can conduct our egg hunt without snow boots.

My sweet friend and I hit the thrifts and golly did we do great!
I found this mixer and a friend of mine is gifting it to her granddaughter!

I found these two bunnies and bird. The bunnies are on my mantle and the bird will eventually go outside to sit in one of my flower pots. total spend 6.00.

I found 2 Made in the USA donut pans for 2.00 each. These are lovely heavy pans the same brand king Arthur Flour sells.

A handmade lap quilt that will live on the porch in the summer for those cool summer nights. I also found 2 potholder looms I am following a woman on line who is making lovely pot holders. Crazy I know but she uses wool and old jeans. I have wool to spare and I wanted to purchase the looms cheap and cheap they were! the 2 looms 4.50 with a few loops and the lap quilt was 3.00.
I found quite a few assorted name brand pieces of clothing! They were mostly 3.00 a piece. I always feel so excited when I can purchase great clothing to change up the wardrobe a bit for little $.

And of course if I bring things in somethings must go out!
And if I have a donut pan I must try it out. Great success! This is one batch of chocolate donuts done 3 ways. It will be fun to make them for the holidays and when company comes.

I potted up a few of my geraniums. It was nice enough to do it outside but I brought them in as our nights are still very cold.
They are already sprouting a bit so we shall see how they do again this year.
****
I have been keeping track of our food spending. Jan was a stock up month and a trip to the warehouse store so that month was really really high in spending 793.67 Feb was 196.62. I would love at the end of the year to average it out to no more than 300.00 a month. But we shall see, we do not eat out much but do have a few gift certificates for local restaurants, if we go out now and then it is usually for lunch.
I hope you are all well and not in line for that horrid weather out west.
Have a great week!
