Painting The Porch

My Azelea is amazing!!!

All of our screens are off waiting for the painter to start.
When the screens were removed, we found some issues.
My amazing husband spliced this post together to cure some rot that was found......

The reason he spliced it instead of replacing it, you cannot get these posts anymore and trust me we tried everywhere! So, it was either do this or replace every post on this 40 ft porch. A lot of work and very expensive. We are replacing the stairs with trex (A composite) decking boards, so the snow and rain doesn't harm it anymore They had to be stained every spring. My dear husband has saved us thousands and thousands of dollars in our married life. So blessed he has those skills.
It will be beautiful when it is done but I am impatient to get it cleaned up and get out there.

I had an eye appointment today. My prescription changed just a bit, but I want new glasses, I will wait a while before I buy them.
I am getting new tires tomorrow $$$$. It is always something.
Have a wonderful rest of your week.

Yes. Very lucky to have such a handy hubby. Thankfully DSO is handy, too, and has saved me much $$$, but still not the same as a fulltime live-in handyman...lol!
New tires. UGH ;-( A necessary but expensive evil.

We’ve had to buy a new hot water tank, microwave, washer and dryer recently. There is always something!

My husband is handy with things too. He has saved us lots over the years!

My deck needs to be washed and sealed but I can't do it until the pollen stops and this rain stops long enough for the job to get done and deck to dry for a couple days before sealing. Yesterday I had an oil change and brake light bulb replaced. Today I go back to have the oil pan gasket replaced because he didn't have one in stock. Maybe I'll finish binding my fox rug by the end of today.

I like those old fashioned decks that are painted gray. What color will yours be?

You are indeed fortunate in have a handy husband. I struggle with getting the smallest of tasks accomplished here. Right now I am waiting on yet another person to come work on my fireplace which hasn't worked for the past 4 years. So many things needing doing and no one to do them. Your azalea is lovely. I don't have any, but my rhododendron is in full bloom. ~Robin~

My husband used to be handy too but he can't do much anymore and mostly sit around now. I have so many things that need to be fixed and painted, etc.

Your Azalia is gorgeous. We live by the river and it's colder and the buds are still not open yet, but up the road, they are in bloom.
I hope that you'll show us the painted screen.

Take care, hugs.

Jack's pretty handy too but sometimes his body says no! He replaced the front steps with trex and will do the back deck steps next. I want to rip off the whole deck and replace it with trex and would love a screened in area when the skitters come biting! I better win the lottery for that! Your azalea is beautiful. Ours looks great too and I'm happy because last year we had no blooms due to having a freeze. I hate spending money on things like tires...or vacuums or other stuff not fun! Take care Cathy!

Hi Cathy! The Azaleas are beautiful! So glad your husband can take of so many things around your home. You are right - it saves a lot of money! We had to get new tires the day after Thanksgiving last year - right before Christmas. Seems there is always something to spend money on. I hope you have a good weekend and a very nice Mother's Day!

There's always something that needs doing when you own a house. Your porch will be lovely once it's all painted.
Your azalea is such a bold and beautiful colour 💗

we replaced our deck with trex, it cost us a fortune. when the contractor gave us the price my husband said "oh no, i don't want a new house, just a new deck"!! we all had a good laugh over that one!!

your azalea is lovely, it is the same color as some of mine!!!

Kudos to your hubby or being the fixer upper he is. Everything is so expensive now. We have to get a new stove now and not looking forward to it. Will be going on Monday night. Your porch will look fantastic once completed. I sure wish we had a covered one. Happy Mother's Day! Janice

We well know that replacing wooden porch spindles can be impossible as we had similar issues with our VA home. Glad that your husband was able to do a few repairs. We also replaced the wood porch dekc with trex decking which Patrick installed himself and it was one of the best things because no more worries about rotting wood.

I can see why you didn't want to replace the posts. Both financially but also they have such a pleasing design. Your husband sounds very skilled in this area. I'm delighted he could save money AND get the porch in good working order!
