Bluebird At My Window

This sweet bluebird and his mate visited our feeder during a recent snow storm.

I have been slowly putting Christmas away. I don't have a lot of heart things. This was from a thrift store several years ago.
Husband used up the last of the raspberry jam. I was getting ready to marinate some chicken so I made a very tasty marinate with what was left in the jar. I added some olive oil, vinegar, mustard.salt and pepper. Shake, shake, shake the jar voila tasty marinade. You could also use this as a salad dressing. A great way to use up what was still clinging to the jar.
We are cold and very snowy. (But not as bad as Buffalo NY yikes!) I have shoveled and sanded until my body aches so much! I got my first seed catalog and someone posted this. My garden is not this large but I will take some of the ideas when planting this spring. Think spring!

Husband is better but needs an exray this week. I am off to hook with friends for a few days!
Have a great week

Awww, the blue bird is adorable.
Stay warm and cozy while winter is being winter.
Flower seeds are on sale at the local Dollar Tree.
It will be snowing here tomorrow. No shopping trips for me.

Enjoy the hooking! Great idea for a marinade.

Chicken is on the menu for tomorrow but it's a Sam's club already cooked one! Our feeder has had many visitors this week with the cold and the little snow we've had. Annabelle likes laying by the slider door watching the action! More snow coming our way this week but the month is almost over and then on to February...shortest month, worst weather! We'll see anyway! Stay warm and safe!

I love your idea for marinating with raspberry. I have an almost empty strawberry jam so am thinking that will work. I have screen shot the recipe. We are really cold and snowy here but I am not quite ready to give up on winter yet.

That's a really good idea about making a marinade out of the dregs of the jam. I'll have to remember that!

The marinade sounds delicious! Loved the bluebird and enjoyed reading your whole post, and the photos. We have snow here but it’s only about 3”. As luck would have it a 14 year old knocked on the door and offered to shovel our driveway and path up to the front door. Thankfully we are cycling round to these young ones who are looking to earn some pocket change this year. Our backs are very grateful :)

Bluebirds seem to be rare around here...blue jays, not so much. In the frigid weather we are having, ALL birds are rare...even my beloved crows. It is, as my mum used to say, too cold to snow. We had a nasty storm last Friday into Saturday...and then the wind and cold settled in. I am still not acclimated...each year it takes longer and longer. Have fun hooking with friends! ~Robin~

No bluebirds here. We have more Bluejays here in the Winter. We just started seeing Baltimore Orioles for the past 2 years, so maybe the Bluebirds will make a comeback too. I love your Lady Liberty rug thus far too. Janice

I could not believe that you had a bluebird despite the cold temps, Cathy, all we see from our window view are Mallard Ducks, Canada Geese, and gulls. Hope you will be feeling better after the shoveling and sanding which luckily we no longer worry about. The marinade sounds like a good idea for the next time we have a near empty jam jar as I'm sure it would work with blueberry as well.

Great idea using the almost empty jar to flavour your marinade.
I'm envious of your bluebird but I do wonder why it's still around in January!!

Great idea about the raspberry jam marinade. My husband usually always pours a little tea in the bottom of the jar, swirls it, and pours it in his tea. I don't like sweet drinks so the marinade sounds better to me.

Have fun with the girls and safe driving.
Hugs, Julia

Bluebirds are so beautiful, we never see them until spring – a good reminder I need to spruce up the bluebird houses. I love the marinade idea, a great way to use leftover jam!

I wish I had bluebirds, have only seen them once, years ago. I am being lazy, need to get Christmas put away and put up a few things for Valentines. I need to keep decorating down so we can get the walls painted.
