Define "Good" Bakery

I recently read that a bakery in a very small town very north of us could be called one of the best in the country.
Soo, we decided to give it a try. I am all about bakeries.
Up through the notch in the Mts.

Clouds were threating.

And in the notch where weather gets caught was rainy and very low clouds no mountains to be seen.
We make it to the little town. Where there is chess in the park.
I don't play chess, but I love that it is there.

Then on to their Main St. Where the pots and plantings were beautiful!

We got there just a bit before noon. Time to check this place out!
Not many choices for lunch but we both ordered BLTs on their handmade bread. A really lovely black raspberry iced tea and a pastry out of their smallish pastry case that was almost wiped out.
The sandwiches came I got the ends of the tomato in mine and about 2 slices of bacon hmmm. Husband's sandwich seemed better and had more bacon. The bread, amazing! Pastries good.

We decided to bring home some bread. They cut it there if you want. Honey oatmeal and some french bread. Both very very good. I was going to bring home some Pizza dough, but they were sold out.
Were we late to the bakery? Did we hit it on an off day?

On the trip home we decided that it was not a good enough experience to make another trip of well over an hour. To try it again.
We do not have a bakery here in our area. I am always looking for a fix! Give me an old fashion bakery with pies, cakes, apple squares, soft fluffy dinner rolls, really great donuts, and I could go on and on!! And maybe it is a good thing there is not one here.
That is my sad tale. Who decides it's a good bakery? Do we all have our own version of it?
Do tell!

That is disappointing, especially when you’re anticipating something wonderful. Hmmm - just who left that review that it is one of the best in the country - family?! Yes, it could’ve been an off day or they were shortstaffed. But if I’m getting a BLT, it better especially be loaded with bacon. What makes it good – made from scratch, fresh baked, Made with love!

It was a national review but it could be family lol. I love tomatoes this time of but don't give me the ends.
Thank you for the visit

When I was growing up as a kid at home there was a family bakery-when us kids had a birthday we got to order a birthday cake there there of our choosing. other than that we always baked from scratch at home. I have not lived in too many places since that a really good bakery like that

I am with you on this Sista...give me a good bakery and I melt like butter. My mother (and later my sister) was the best baker I've known and we baked our own bread and buns weekly - and desserts daily. But, in summers when my mum worked both the farm and the cannery (and my dad the farm and factory), we would, on occasion, be treated to Eddie's bakery on the town closest to us. I can still smell the smells that wafted through the door the moment you opened it. A simple counter and showcase but oh my YUM. We have no good bakeries here anymore...the groceries who advertise their baked goods as their own baked stuff are just baking things that are shipped in and everything tastes the same - and none of it worthy of of the title "our own." It's frustrating because I love home-baked goods and while I love to bake, I don't want to eat the same thing I've baked day in until it's gone. (Well, maybe I do...but shouldn't LOL). Anyways...it was a beautifully scenic trip! Just love those mountains and greenery!! ~Robin~

It was bad enough that your BLT was disappointing but that you drove all that way thinking you were going to get a treat. Some treat :(

It was worth a try, a drive on a lovely day and good bread, though disappointing sandwich.

Too bad it wasn't better to make it worthwhile to go again.
Gosh in Chicago we had a ton of good bakeries.
Here in GA - Publix grocery store is the best we have.

I was so excited when a new bakery opened in our town. I was so excited couldn't wait. First day I was there to get my favorite , maple donuts. They looked fabulous. Turns out they were peanut butter!!! YUCK! They didn't even warn me. Worst bakery ever!

Well first off the scenery is just fantastic! Second I love our little bakery up the road in the town our store is in. So glad you had a good experience with the bakery you went to with the ride you had to take. The bread looked good! We have this Polish place that only opens up om weekends. If you dont get there when they open you probably wont get any food. The owner makes it fresh daily those 2 days. They take the entire Summer off so no business now. Janice

At least you had beautiful scenery on your journey. It is so flat in northern Ohio ;-(

Thank you for visiting my blog- I am thankful because it led me to yours! I love bakeries and often long for the bakeries we had up north. We have a couple in town, but the 30-40 minute drive makes it inconvenient. Like you discovered with yours, they are often sold out by noon time.

We have a couple who bake amazing breads and sweets and they sell at farmers markets in the summer and fall and online in winter. You order and they have a pick up spot. No walk in bakery with those amazing smells! I bet the one you visited is better early for baked goods. The drive sure was lovely! I don't think you have any area that's not beautiful!

There is a bakery here in downtown Nashua, NH, but we have only bought donuts there a handful of times. Unfortunately, it does not have homemade breads. But, years ago living in NJ we would cycle or walk to a nearby bakery for fresh baked loaves and somehow the ends would be missing by the time we arrived home😋

I was wondering which town New England town you drove to as we are nearly neighbors.
