Horoscope

Monday morning my friend and I met up for a hike at Castle in the clouds. I have shown this before it is the waterfall trail. We have our next hike all mapped out still at Castle in the Clouds a simply beautiful place.
More pictures and the history it is one amazing place I feel lucky to live close enough to hike it.
After we went to lunch, my idea of a perfect day.

My Horoscope today. I do think it hit the nail on the head. The older I get the less I need to make me really happy. Like a hike and lunch with my sweet friend!

I tried making ricotta gnocchi. It came out amazing! and so easy! This is my bag of frozen ones for next time. Husband was very impressed but he said he is not surprised by how well they came out. He really is my biggest cheerleader.

I have been doing laundry way longer than I care to admit and still I came out with pink whites!!! A red shirt got mixed in I just didn't see it. Ugg my north face shirt I use for hiking. I am going to use it anyway who cares??
Speaking of laundry, I bought wool from a woman who was selling her stash. She failed to mention it reeked of mothballs!!! I had an instant headache and have spent days trying to save this wool but it is going in the garbage I just can not get the smell out and I have tried everything! To say I was a little mad would be an understatement. Lesson learned.

We are going into the cold again this week. The winds have already started and we could get snow flurries for the next couple of days. The joys of spring in New England.
***
Each night we watch the news while eating dinner a practice we need to stop right now. When summer comes and we eat on the porch it is lovely no tv! (come on summer)
There is no good news to be had, so sad I just cannot handle it. But it does make me count my blessing a little louder and longer for I have many I am very grateful for.
Have a wonderful Week!!

Oh no on the wool smelling like mothballs. My mom use to keep them in her dresser drawers for as long as I can remember, but has now stopped doing it. I hate the smell too. We have a trail here that is called the Bay to Bridge Trail. It starts at our Anchor Bay and ends at the Blue Water Bridge that crosses into Canada. It is a total of 50 miles and it runs one house away from mine. We use to walk a portion of it, but most folks ride their bike on it. Ours runs along the river, but I know your is probably more spectacular! Janice

Hi Cathy, that is wonderful that you have a hiking partner.
I have been thinking of making gnocchi-as I have never done it before-so thanks for the inspiration-hugs.
I don't know why some still use mothballs-I don't know of any way to rid of the smell either I use dried tansy and lavender in my wool and works great. I still have loads of wool that I bought at thrift shops-100% wool clothes felt it down and dry it
I stopped watching the news even the local news about 4 years ago. If I want news I just search online a bit to see what is happening and can compare the stories to figure out what is the truth.
thanks for sharing-I enjoyed your post hugs Kathy

What an incredible place that is!!! I got lost reading about its history and looking at the photos. It always amazes me to see how some live(d)...and to think this was only a "summer" home. Yikes. I would never have left. And so many acres!!!!! Your gnocchi looks great...what did you use it for? I've only ever had it in soup I guess....and certainly never made my own. (Gnocchi that is...soup of course.) How sad about the wool!! No! Don't throw it out!!! If I paid for the postage would you send me a piece and I could experiment???? If I come up with a solution, I will share it with you...and pay you as well for the wool you sent. ~Robin~

After reading your post I did a google of my horoscope for today (almost past) and tomorrow. Nothing it said about today was relevant or happened. However, I did find it and tomorrow's prediction an entertainment.
Such a shame you lost all that wool due to the moth balls. Ya think if you let it hang outside for a few days it might be suitable to use? Sure hope so.

I've never made Ricotta Gnocchi but I just might give it a try. I know it's easy and I don't know why I never even tried making it.

Oh No, I'm sorry about the smelly wool but I think it's worth trying to get the smell out with a cup of vinegar. Vinegar neutralizes odors. You can soak it in a laundry tub and then wash it in laundry detergent and rinse it well. I would hang it on the line to remove any lingering smell. You might have to repeat the treatment if any smell lingers.

Other bloggers might be able to have a better solution.

Hugs, Julia

I definitely need to get back to the castle, have never hiked that area, just visited the castle.
Have you tried lavender scented products? I do hate that smell and some just don't come out, such a shame. I use lavender and so far mine has been ok in the basement. I also want to get back to Littleton. We stayed at a camp near there and never realized what fun things were in the area.

The worst is when someone tries to cover the mildew smell of damp basement with moth balls. Nope, all you get is 2 vile smells combined to make one horrendous stench.
Bummer on the moth ball smell, I wonder if that's part of the reason she was getting rid of it? I don't know that my standbys for odor removing (long soak in very hot water and oxygen bleach, or 50-50 hot water & vinegar) would do the wool any good, it might turn to felt.
Castle in the Clouds looks like a gorgeous place for a hike.

We have visited Castle in the Clouds and it was indeed a wonderful adventure, Cathy, but we are not up to hiking any uphill trails so good for you and your friend. Lunch afterwards sounded like a great plan too. Glad the ricotta gnocchi turned out so well and wondered if you will possibly share the recipe in future. As for the new, it's something I do not check on a daily basis. My husband does read it online daily, instead I go to the in-house gym and watch streaming programs.

You are fortunate for sure to live near such an awesome place. The older I get the less I like change. I do have a couple of weaknesses when it comes to wanting things - books and plants. Dinner on the porch sounds wonderful.

What a treat to hike around Castle in the Clouds. Spectacular views.
So sorry about the wool. Are you going to take Robin up on her offer or did you already toss it?
Gnocchi sounds interesting. Now you know you need to share the recipe!

I watch the news every morning and yes it's depressing. Why do I watch it? Beats me! I guess I thought it would make me smarter knowing what's happening in the world but all it's made me is sadder! So sad about your wool. But how fun to hike in a beautiful location like that. How nice to be healthy enough to hike! That's a blessing. I hope Spring arrives finally for you and for us. We had cold this week but it looks like more normal temps for Spring are arriving this next week. Take care Cathy and have a good weekend.

Castle in the Clouds. Isn't that the most wonderful name? And what a shame about the wool. I hope you didn't pay a fortune for it but even a bit, when you have to throw it out (especially after all the work you do to try to remove the odor) -- well, it's just sad! That IS a good horoscope -- I'm a Leo, too!

Hi again Cathy! You asked about my decision to go back to work after retirement. I had always planned on returning after the 120 days that is required to wait until going back. I was planning on PRN which means I could go back without any benefits and would work if the hospital needed extra help but I always have the freedom of saying yes or no. Well, Covid came and surgery was limited to emergency only and on and on. I just forgot about working since they weren't hiring. But a few months ago my former boss asked if I would again be interested in returning since 4 people had left and they were short handed. It took me a little while to decide if that's what I would do. Well, I said OK and have been back working about 2 days a week on average and so far so good. My former coworkers are glad I'm back and so are the Docs and I've been happy with the extra money! I do get tired on super busy days but I don't have to take call, work weekends or holidays and can always say no if I already have plans. I feel like I'm doing something good and keeping my brain active. I do have to juggle my time on work days and I would never have adopted another dog but she's adapting to day care and also being home alone for a few hours here and there. So I guess I would say for now I'm glad I'm working again. In another year when I'm 70 I may decide to say a final farewell...time will tell I guess! Good luck with your decision. I know you'll figure out what's best for you, your hubby, your time, and your finances. Have a good weekend friend! YaYa
