Swap Shop At The Dump

My big outing on Monday was to go to the dump(AKA recycling center) in our little town. I have talked about this before but we have a lovely big room that has selves where people put things that others may want. It is all free and as the dump attendant says "We have a great return policy" Well anyway I saw the two cookbooks and thought they should come home with me. I haven't had time yet to look through them but the Maine one seems promising.

So very true...

I also got this book it is based on the woman who helped split the atom for the bomb. I have read a couple of chapters. It is very much a spy novel. Not my type of book but I will finish it. I want to know more about her.

I have hooked a bit. I am not that happy with the tops of the wings but I will leave it until I finish other things around it.

This is really not a rug you can fully color plan before starting.
I knew the direction I wanted to go and now I am just trying to move the colors through the rug. It is big but I am really enjoying it. I am working in a 6 cut, that is small for me, I had to for the detail.

The weather has been glorious but a bit windy. Today it hit 60, rain for the next few days which is fine we do not want any dry wells this summer. I am working on planing my little veggie garden and looking forward to spending time on my sweet porch.
Spring it makes you hopeful

Good evening, wow what an awesome idea to have donated items set up for free-love that. James Beard cookbooks are always really good I had a few of them for a long time his bread book is nice. I am a collector of cookbooks-among other things lol-I took many many boxes to the library where they will sell them and the money goes to the library. I left behind most of my cookbooks over the years I must have collected over 500 at least. I sold a few off my blog many years ago but most I have given away-I love to read cookbooks especially the older ones.
I am loving your new hooking project, and I love butterflies-we saw our first butterfly today flying along the lake's edge-very fun to see that they are arriving. we have a major storm coming tonight up to 40 mile an hour winds-which will have me on edge for sure.
sorry for the long response Have a good evening hugs Kathy

That sounds like a great idea at the recycling center...unfortunately I know way too many things would follow me home than should. I have such a weakness for books...and, yes, cookbooks included. I just picked up the Magnolia cookbook at Target and am pondering how the heck I am going to jam it in my cookbook cupboard LOL. Your rug is looking amazing....Each of those little critters just pop. I think that, in some ways, this one would at least feel as though it were going quick even though it is large since you can do one motif at a time and feel an accomplishment....and you're certainly not going to get bored. 😳 We have had very gloomy, gray, weather...for more days than I care to count. Snow, rain, snow....wind...always wind. Today it was raining in the back of the house while, at the very same time, it was snowing in the front of the house. Bizarre. ~Robin~

Your rug is looking very nice! It has been raining/snow/raining here as well. I live near Robin so, what is going on there is here as well. The sap doesn't know what to do...ahahha

I'm so glad the better weather has found you! I too am thinking about my garden and have bought seeds and I'm looking forward to visiting the garden centers just opening. But way too soon for flower planting here...snow is in the forecast for Saturday. Your rug looks like a lovely project and I know it will be beautiful. Have a good weekend Cathy! P.S...I would love to visit your "Dump"...too fun!

I like that you can hook small motifs in your rug here and there and that you can move on to another and feel some accomplishment. As for the top of the butterfly wings, I think it's wise to just leave it alone until later. It all looks beautiful.

I know all too well the thrill of the hunt but I no longer buy cookbooks as I had so many and they were all given to the Salvation Army Thrift Store. It's been the same with thrift stores, I only go if I really need something and it's been a while since I went. I think that Covid kind of paused my spending on things I really didn't need anyway.

Take care,hugs
Julia

What a wonderful idea. It is illegal to take anything from our dumps Unless you saw something in somebody's car and asked them for it. I see all sorts of good stuff but I wouldn't be able to reach it anyway. I love your rug.

You are off to a great start on the rug...but I can't imagine hooking a rug that large in a 6 cut!!!

What a great idea with the dump. More communities need to do this. It might save on actually taking things to the dump. Your rug looks challenging, but I know you will do a fantastic job! Janice

Just returned from rug camp where I am hooking a piece in #5 and lower...swore I'd never do another narrow cut but here I am.

That is a good idea that your local recycling center has in place, Cathy. There was something similar when we lived in VA, but after a while people just started leaving items that really should have been trashed. Also, it was all outdoors so any books, clothing or items that would be affected by wet weather would not be good to leave there. It looks like you did get a couple of good finds and indeed no calories from reading them.
