Trying To Find Solace..

I have taken to my gardens. It makes me happy to see my plants flourish.

I am not purchasing many plants this year, but I did buy these two
coral bells (southern comfort) I purchased mostly for the interesting leaves. They hopefully will keep coming up each year.

Last Wed we went to my grand's band concert. My heart was so heavy from the event of the day before. But so nice to see her with friends and smiling.

I contacted a woman who had a lot of wool from a woman who passed away. she was trying to get the wool into other hands. She is not a rug hooker. I took some and have a bag to pass on to my guild. I gave her a donation towards another guild in Maine.

Today I took some time to dye some. It came out ok it is always a surprise. I try for certain colors, but my well water messes with some of the colors. Still useable.
I haven't had the heart to pull any loops lately. So, nothing new on my rug,

I took this through the screen on the porch it is a robin taking a bath.
That robin was so happy! splashing and splashing!

I stayed up late to watch the meteor showers last night. I live in the woods it was darker than dark, but the really amazing thing was it was complete silence... It was like all the night animals just stopped and looked up. Husband was sleeping I just let the silence and show surround me. I am having a very hard time finding peace lately. I am not sleeping much, and I feel such a sense of unease all the time.

We have a very busy month coming up something every weekend.
Sweet B has a dance recital this coming weekend. It will do my heart good to spend some time with her.
I hope you are all well and enjoying the early summer.
have a wonderful week.

You certainly aren't alone with the way your feeling Cathy....There is angst in the air these days....and despair. Keeping busy, spending time (lots of time) in nature and digging in the dirt, and treasuring time with Miss B is the best medicine. I have been cutting back each year with my plants. It is too much...I can't keep up with the watering or the fall/spring clean-ups. Those are the worst on my back. It was also very difficult to keep the annuals alive when I used to go to the lake, so I really cut back after we got the lake house. But this year I haven't been there, so part of me wishes I had gotten more at least this year. But, clean up from the fall is not yet done...and the weeds are outpacing me at every turn. And the wind has been absolutely horrendous. Today we had 50+ mph gusts....It blew my old (full size) ladder several feet where it broke on the bricks...and took out several plants with it. Wind unnerves me and sets me on edge more than it should so today was especially bad. Take care and know you are not alone. ~Robin~

I forgot all about the meteor shower that would have been cool to watch. what kind of dye did you use to dye your wool? My Mom always used Cushman dyes I think they still make those. I have done allot of hand dyeing in the past I loved using natural dye materials-always a surprise in the dye pot.
Sounds like you will be pretty busy this summer, sometimes that is a good thing. I for sure spent too much money on annual flowers this year-I couldn't resist the gorgeous huge petunias I bought from the Amish greenhouse they should give us enjoyment this summer.
Hope you will be feeling better-hugs (I received your beautiful card and letter today-thank you)

With everything going on lately, it is hard to find peace. I hate turning on the news, even locally there are deaths and murders daily.
I usually buy a few plants each year and just sitting on the porch and looking out on the yard can bring me a bit of peace. We got clouds and what little sky showed didn't help, so I wasn't able to see anything.

Most of the flowers (at last home) were from plants friends shared. It was so nice to see them return, flourish and spread year after year. I smiled when I saw the robin in the water. Simple joyful moments keep us going, don’t they?

I've cut way back on listening/watching news and instead try to keep myself occupied with hooking. Tho is you read my last blog post you can see I'm struggling in that department as well. Do things which are enjoyable and provides a sense of calm.

Miss B. looks very happy in her recital. She has grown so fast. You have picked some beautiful plants. I started Lupins from seeds last year and they came up again this spring. They are not yet blooming though.

With all that is happening lately, we are in need of a miracle to set our hearts at peace. I'm praying for peace in the world and peace in our hearts. There is certainly an air of unease for everyone except for the birds. Love the picture of the little robin taking a bath. So cute

Hugs, Julia

Sadness is affecting so many, Cathy, so you certainly are not alone. Finding peace and solace in nature and also enjoying your granddaughter's performances in music and dance are wonderful experiences that are sure to make you smile.

I will just agree with what the others have stated. On a sweeter note, I recently purchased a specialty tea called "Solace." :-) It's lovely.

I can only imagine how beautiful a meteor shower would be in the dark quiet of the woods. And your sweet grand. Wonderful!

That smile on Miss B's face shows that all can be well with the world. This country is such turmoil. It is both sad and frightening.
I bet that meteor shower was amazing. It is never really dark where I live.
We must just hope and pray that we may find inner peace.

I am so glad you posted about your gardens. I am sure it is just beautiful and quiet in the woods. That day you posted about was so terrible and I still can't think about it too much. To many questions.
I am glad you have such nice things to go do this month. I have had to really limit myself to the news. I was listening to a guy and he asked this question, " How is it at your house." I told my husband what that guy said, and now when I am going on about what is happening in the world. He will just look at me and ask, ' How is it going on at your house?" It makes me stop and look at all of the wonderful gifts I have been given at my house and pulls my mind back to those things I am responsible for and pray, pray, pray for those poor people. I do hope you have the best weekend. Sorry I wrote a book. I can't wait to see your rug.

I have been finding solace in hooking and puttering in my house. Avoiding the real world as much as I can. Such a sweet grand daughter...

It's amazing how nature and the littlest things like a bird in a bird bath can comfort and bring joy. I missed the meteor shower as it was quite late and I worked a lot that week. Too tired! I think Miss B is so cute and getting so big! Enjoy every moment with her! I hope you're feeling better in spirit and I know with all that's happened in our country lately that it's hard to do sometimes. Take care Cathy!
