Because it has been so cold our heating oil needed to be refilled. Not cheap but I am so thankful for the great service and to be toasty warm.
Because I am an old Yankee. I go to great lengths to save $.
I rinse out the freezer bags after use as long as it didn't hold a meat product.,we have shut down rooms of the house that gets very little use when it is just us, I have our tvs on power strips after we are done we shut them down completely. I could go on all those little things that add up. Tell me your favorite tip to save.

We are missing most of the storms coming east again. There is a lot of sickness around right now and my aunt reminded me the old timers felt a good coating of snow helped it go away. Who knows but we could use some snow.

My mother use to say the same thing about needing snow to cleanse the air.
I turn the thermostat down 3 degrees when I go to bed, also wash out freezer bags. And it is very rare that I even eat lunch out, would rather eat at home.
I agree -the snow seems to cut back illness. Temps going back and forth seems to bring it on.
Love your tips. We turn our heat down at night and don't have it too high during the day, only turn it up from 7-10 at night when we're just sitting.
You are reminding me of my growing up days...we didn't have freezer bags..we used old bread bags, etc. and, yes, we washed and dried them. I HATED being on drying duty when we had bags to do! (And I was ALWAYS on drying duty because my sister was older.). We also reused aluminum foil...gift wrap (ugh! Good thing we didn't get many gifts because it took FOREVER to open a gift so we didn't rip the paper unnecessarily) bows, etc. I don't re-use/wash bags or save foil or used gift wrap, but I do recycle bows and ribbons....and good "to-go" containers on the rare occasion I ge to-go food..the ones now days make Tupperware obsolete. Can't remember the last time I went out to eat...but admit I do miss that. Several other things as well...but I'm sure they are things most people do? ~Robin~
I turn my heat down to about 63* at night because I sleep under an electric blanket and am toasty warm!
We eat out occasionally but not at pricey places. We discovered that Ruby Tuesday’s (if they are in your area) has great deals when you sign up for the app. Every week there is a $3 BOGO and one day a week $6.99 burgers. Cheaper than you can eat at fast food.
It’s been cold here and no temps above freezing for the next week…but not as cold as you.
Rugs and Pugs
I rarely eat out preferring my own food to restaurant fare. I,too, wash out freezer bags and hang them up to dry. I soak and boil dry beans instead of buying them in a can.
I also re-use bags if meat was not in them. I unplug what I can. We usually go out to dinner once a month now with our friends. We stopped going to fast food restaurants. We stopped purchasing wet food for Tundra and make food for him now which has cost less. I make a bit more of everything now so we have lunch the next day or even dinner again so less oven and stove usage. We dont spend lots on clothes just to have them and only buy what is needed. Our heat has been at 66, but I may have to raise it to 67 as it is getting colder now. trying to prepare myself for my retirement. Janice
The horror of the California fires is beyond comprehension.
We eat out very rarely. It is way cheaper to cook at home! Besides, we have few places to eat which we would enjoy anyway. That makes it easier to avoid.
I try not to waste food and freeze things as much as possible. I shop various stores for specials and stock up when there’s a good one.
