Cake???

Last night we took a little ride to the local old cemetery they had a line of pumpkins on the wall. Because this one had a strobe light in it is was hard to get it lit. Spooky fun.
Today I went to a mini rug show a local rug camp was showing.
I will show a few halloween ones and then add more through out the next few posts.

If you enlarge it you may get the names of the hooker.

The acorns were felted and the tail of the crow is off the rug.

And we know Santa is just around the corner.

I adore this rug!!! They got that birch just right!!!

On another note I finished knitting a shawl that wraps around your waist and ties in the back. It goes into a v in the back so it hides the tie. it is warm and cosy and very old fashioned.

It was chilly and raw today even though we are going into the high 70s tomorrow for halloween!
I made a cake! I know This recipe is well used. It takes no eggs or dairy of any kind. It is a recipe from WWII.

It makes a one layer chocolate cake if you are interested in the recipe I will post it here. This cake is so moist and lovely you really don't need frosting. I had some coconut that needed to be used so I frosted it but usually I put a dusting of powdered sugar on the top.
****
I hope you all have a perfect Halloween!
Or for those who celebrate  the Irish Samhain.

Those rugs are incredible! I've never seen hooked rugs like that until you showed some. Such talent!

What wonderful rugs. Jyl Robbins who hooked The Witch is Retired rug was my teacher at rug camp in May. She was so excited to be retiring!
Great shawl. (You look terrific like you have been dieting!)

What a fun idea for the cemetery! And oh my! Those rugs. Fabulous. You're right about the birch. Your shawl is darling and looks very cozy. I've never seen a pattern like that and really like it!

Nice rugs! That carpet in the 2nd photo would make a great background for a rug or needlepunch project. Or maybe a quilt design??
And thanks for the cake recipe. It's very interesting what workarounds they came up with to deal with WWII rationing.

Different Halloween rugs than I've seen before. Temps are predicted to be as high as 80 degrees here today for Halloween, a record. I should finish knitting the shawl I started over 10 years ago and it has the same shape as yours only attaches at the long side of the other end so it is in a V at the front and just pulls over the head with lots of head neck room and no ties.

I love your shawl! I like that you can be cozy and have your hands free. I have my mom's WWll cookbook and it gives substitutions for ingredients that were unavailable during the war. For a cookbook, it is fascinating to read.

I LOVE all the rugs! They are great and what a good idea to put pumpkins on the cemetery wall. I hope you have a fun Halloween. Like you, we get no kiddos but somehow a few treats have made it to the Pines! Happy Halloween Cathy!

Somehow, this post is only now first showing up on my reading list...weird. (But better than not showing up at all as I found is happening with some.) The JOLs on the old cemetery wall must have been fabulous! What a fun idea. Is there someone in particular who organizes that? I love ALL the Halloween rugs!! So many wonderful crows LOL. Yes, I've seen that cake recipe now and then but have never tried it. I see your recipe says you can mix it right in the pan. Is that what you do? It just seems odd that you don't have to grease/flour the pan you know? Hope your Halloween was spooky good....We had miserable weather - rain, wind, and COLD! Happy November! ~Robin~

I like your wrap! How about directions/pattern? It is supposed to be very cold here this winter with heat expensive so I am looking to knit added warmth.

Those rugs are wonderful, I do like fall themed rugs, they lend to that prim look. Beautiful scarf and it is a fun piece to wear.

Both the rugs and your shawl are lovely and I so admire folks with such creative talents because nothing beats handmade. I have heard of that WW II cake and at one time even had a recipe, so if you do post it in the future, thanks in advance. As for blogger, you can never tell when it will act strange.
