Summer

My old fashion roses are in full bloom so lovely

We got this bush from a friend who was going to bulldoze it. He had bought land that use to have an old house on it. He was clearing to build his house. It is so fragrant so lovely.

I bought some local strawberries and oh they were so good!

I finally found a good pizza crust and made some very tasty pizza with just left-over veggies and some pepperoni.

If I can keep the birds away from the blueberries, I just may have some to eat this year.

The fireflies have come out again this year. I am always so excited to see them every year. (My jar of solar stars)

A new shop in town it is a very different shop I got this small candle
really it smells like Christmas and if it gives me inspiration and clarity that's a bonus lol.

So, for their grand opening they were having card readings.
Ok I am game truly it was a joke it was such a horrid job.
The reader talked about himself so much I had way more information about him than I should have had for only meeting him for15 minutes lol.
****
Our mountains got snow this weekend
Our high for the past 2 days has been 58F Brrrrrr with a very brisk wind,
but I would take it over the triple digit heat the rest of the country is having.

Have a wonderful week!!

Your rose bush is simply beautiful!
I saw fireflies (we always called them lightening bugs!) for the first time the other night.
Those are some pretty chilly temps for mid-June, but like you said, better than triple digits.

Good afternoon Cathy, what a fun post-so awesome you were able to save those lovely roses. I have never had good luck growing roses, I love the older varities the best.
we have seen some fireflies here too-very fun. always exciting to check out a new store. brrr that is cold or is that normal for your area? near the mountains would be cooler for sure. we are still very hot and humid here-my flowers are not very happy
Have a good week hugs from the lake

Your roses are so beautiful...I believe it has rewarded you well for rescuing it. I went back to our family farm a few years back in hopes of finding some of my grandmother's that I could purloin, but the garden had been completely erased. One would never know it even exited. So now her roses grow only in my memory. 58º?? For a high? Yikes! Mother Nature must be getting senile and mistaking you for Nod...and I'm not sure what she thinks Nod is...the weather has been bipolar. Some days (most) I am running around in long pants and a hoodie and the next it's 98º. Tomorrow and Tuesday we are supposed to bounce back up to 95º...with wind that will provide little relief from the humidity and only make it harder for plants to survive. I hope you're enjoying your Sunday . ~Robin~ (PS...you "found" a good pizza crust? You mean a good recipe?? You usually make your own breads and such.... Please share!)

Did you really mention that bad word right now. UGH and LOL Hopefully it will melt right away. Maybe you should have told the guy...hey you are suppose to give me a reading not yourself. Beautiful old rose! I had my great aunts at my old house and was not sure how to bring it over here when I moved. I sure do miss it as the scent was great. Janice

Your old fashion roses are super fragrant. My father-in-law had a big bush growing by the grainery shed at the farm when he was living but after he died the gutter on the old shed was damaged in an ice storm and never fixed. The rose bush got damaged and with years of neglect, it was finally pulled out.

I'm jealous that you can eat strawberries. I used to grow them but developed a severe allergy to them and no longer grow them.

The pizza looks tasty. Would you please share the recipe for the crust? I've been using Greek flatbread to make quick 8' pizzas.

My blueberries also have berries on them but last year, when they ripened, I could only harvest two as birds ate them all but two.😢

So far it's been the coldest June on record so no telling how the growing season will turn out.

Hugs, Julia

My roses are blooming also but these new kind are not as fragrant as old fashion roses must be! However, they are just as lovely. My blueberries are looking promising too and Jack covered them with netting to keep the birds away. We'll see if it works! I'll have to blog about it! Our power was restored finally on Saturday after that storm/3 tornadoes. So I'm back on line and will blog tonight. Take care and enjoy all your summer fun! Our temps are cool now but warmth is again heading our way this week. Take care Cathy!

Few things are more disappointing than a lovely rose with no scent. I'm glad you rescued this one, it's certainly showing it's appreciation at being saved from a bulldozer.

I am so glad you were able to keep that rose. Its beautiful. We had snow in Tahoe this weekend too. It will be triple digit by Wednesday and I am actually ready for it. The strawberries are lovely and so is your pizza crust. Have you been hooking much?

The roses are really lovely, Cathy, and hope that this really unseasonable chilly weather doesn't affect them. Who would have thought we would be donning fleece jackets on the weekend before the 1st day of summer? We tried growing blueberries years ago without any success, so hope the birds allow you to enjoy at least a few.

What fun to go hopping about catching fireflies for your "solar stars." Every morning for the past couple of weeks, I have been having a morning snack right off the blueberry bush. Nothing like eating fresh!

Pizza and strawberries -- two of my favorites! How to bad that the reader at the opening disappointed. That could have been such fun!
