A Pain In The Foot...

We are all signed up for the backyard bird count Feb 13th and 14th
We are officially old!

I pulled out my needle punching. This was all done but the finishing. Now it is finished. This is only my second piece. It is very rough but
it is done time to move on.

Not really sure this is my thing, but I have this kit from who knows where and I will finish it and then decide from there if needle punch is for me.

My fish from my rug school. I started to do the background in blocks. I did not like the look, so I am mixing it up much better to my eye. This is a good size rug I will put it in our upstairs bathroom.

So, I am sure as you have all heard we got a snowstorm here in the East. Well, we are north, and it didn't amount to much here but of course I baked bread.

I have had a couple of health blips nothing life threating it just had to be taken care of and that meant antibiotics. 3 different kinds! I was feeling very sorry for myself. And then it happened my calf hurt and then my foot hurt so much I could not walk on it. I sat down and had myself a think. Just when you think you have it bad the universe gives you a kick in the foot. So truly what every you believe or what your faith is sometimes it gives you something to think about. I am very thankful for that hurt foot and time to think. Life is pretty good for me and my family. And by the way it is back to good. I am back to walking my 3 miles and doing yoga.

We are pretty cold so the fireplace has been a blessing, not sure you can tell but the snow was flying out that window when I took that picture. Yes, my life is pretty wonderful

Have a wonderful week!

So glad you are feeling better. Yes, we need to focus on how good life is. Your fireplace looks lovely. I like the fish rug. That will look great in your bathroom. Hope you have a good week. See you again soon. :-)

You do like those big rugs and when you change the fish to suit you it will be a happy rug to your eye. I've done needle punch but it has been a looong time. Still have the needles in various sizes but no desire to pull them out.
Glad whatever your foot leg problem was am glad you got it sorted out ~ 3 different antibiotics?? WTH? One broad-spectrum antibiotic wouldn't do?

So glad you are getting better. I use to punch needle in the 80's and now I tried again and could not get the hang of it. ugh. So glad the snow missed you. Love your fish rug. Stay warm with your cozy fireplace. Janice

I'm glad your foot is better and sometimes we do need to stop and give life a good once over and count our blessings. You are so talented and I love your hooking projects. It's good that you didn't get too slammed by that blizzard and all is good. I love your fireplace too! A piece of that delish looking bread and some tea would hit the spot on a day of reflection and snow. We're suppose to get a storm on Wednesday afternoon into Thursday and I'm thinking some bread baking is in the cards! I always thought when you get a rain gauge as a gift that you were now considered old. I'll never forget the time we gave my father-in-law one and he said he was now old. I'd never heard that before and just thought it sounded like a good gift for someone who had everything! I was young then! Have a good week Cathy!

Oh your fire looks so cozy! I have the "stuff" to do needle punch but haven't done anything yet. I guess I'm letting it age like a fine wine 😂

So glad to read that you are on the mend...and back to doing your "things" that you enjoy. I broke my foot in 2 places a few months back and it's been a long road back...especially since it's during the winter months so I couldn't/can't wear shoes/boots comfortably and walking on the snow and ice with that contraption they had on my foot was dicey to say the least. But, yes, I know what you mean about thinking inconveniences like that through and realizing there are worse things...much worse things. I love your punched bird... When I first started punching I remember it took a bit to get my "rhythm" but, of course, given my somewhat obsessive personality, I kept punching project after project. I have several patterns I have been hoping to get to, but stitching or hooking always seems to get in the way these days somehow. Glad you were spared the brunt of the storm....and while that fire looks amazing, those large windows make me shiver... You must have better insulation/glass than we have as it seems impossible to warm up the main level of the lake house with the large patio windows/doors there. ~Robin~ (PS...that snowy road of yours is just so beautiful!! ❤️)

I'm so glad that your leg and foot problem has been resolved and you are back at walking. For some reason, punch needle has never appealed to me like rug hookung so I never tried, although I see some beautiful pieces often. Your big fish is looking gorgeous.

I bet that bread was really appreciated by both of you. Mmmm, fresh from the oven, tastes so good with butter and a dab of molasses. I didn't make bread but made a big pot of soup.

Counting backyard birds sounds like an interesting thing to do but you'd have to stay there for quite a long time. I'm not sure how long they have to watch to get the right count.

Take care, stay well and warm. Only 48 days to spring.

Hugs, Julia

I did the bird count last year, maybe I will do it again, I do get their mail to remind me. Sorry you are not feeling well, and glad your foot is better. I still need to see a doc, but want to wait for the numbers to go back down again before I am around people. I have done that bird, need to go through all my patterns, that was a fun one to do.

I am so glad your foot is better. I am glad you are back walking on those snowy roads. How pretty it looks. I feel the same way about punch needle. I just don't know. I love rug hooking, and punch needle doesn't come easy to me. Your bird is great though. I always wanted to do a bird count. We just don't really have birds here. I mean just dove, crows and hoot owl at night and finches and hummingbirds. Pretty boring. I bet you have lots and lots.
I am glad you are on the mend and I love your fish rug. That is beautiful.
Have a wonderful February.

You are so right in saying that when we have short-term health blips, we can realize how good our lives really are in the long run. Good to read that you are feeling better and back to your usual walking activities. There is nothing like homemade bread and/or coup on a wintry day and a fire makes it even better!
