Sigh.....

We have been hot and humid but fall is showing some of her colors.
The leaves are fading and you see hints of color coming.

My gardens are getting a bit ragged. But the naked lady lilies I got from a friend came up ! A wonderful surprise this time of year. Now I am on the hunt for more!

My poor veggies didn't do well this year we had so much rain in July. But I have made 2 batches of sauce and have frozen some tomatoes. We are eating zucchini daily and this weekend, now that it is cooler, I will make some zucchini bread to stock the freezer for this winter.

The last concert on the common was this past Wed. We have seen the change in the light. It seems so gradual and then all of a sudden the days are shorter!

My sweet B got another trail ride in before school. I was not able to go but her grandfather did (Pepe)! The young guy taking them on the ride said "I have a horse that doesn't want to behave who wants him?" B's hand shot up and she said "I will take him" Bold, coming from a rank beginner! It makes me so proud of her that is confidence! She starts riding lessons in Sept. Oh and by the way she did handle him!
I have been hearing rumblings on line about price increases on linen or having a hard time even getting it for rug hooking. So I took my Christmas gift certificate and headed to Dorr Mill. Well the prices are going up. I spent double my gift certificate and I don't feel I got all that much!

Magnolia magazine this month had this woman and she talks about her decision to walk every day no matter the weather. I walk a lot but I am a fair weather walker, my goal is to walk every day. I think it is good for the nerves. And my nerves need lots of help lately.

The news breaks my heart and really takes my breath away. The sadness is over whelming.
Then the storm coming into the gulf...My brother lives there but he is here right now for a visit.
I got news my dear sweet 97 year old aunt has covid. I am beyond sad she is vaccinated, I hope that makes all the difference. But she has become fail in the past few months. All I can do is pray. To live a good life for that long and to have covid be the last straw just does not seem right.
There just seems so much to pray for lately. I have many blessings. I almost feel guilty about those blessings when I hear the news.
sigh....
Have a wonderful week, always counting your blessings.

I hate even turning on the news anymore. Am not sure yet if my cousin's son made it out of Afghanistan. He was decided after leaving the Air Force to work as a civilian over there. So sad for our soldiers and folks stuck there. May God help them all get out safely. Sweet B is a trooper and love her confidence. Sounds like me when I was a kid as I would get on my grandparents horses bareback and ride all by myself. No bridle or saddle. Been hot and humid here too. I use to have day lilies at my old home. I would take the stamen from one flower and touch the stamen from another one and the following year have a new color. It was fun! Janice

I love those "Naked Lady Lilies." I had never heard of them before. I wonder if they have them around here. Yes, it has been a terrible week in the news - so much tragedy and heart-break. I hope your avoid the hurricane that is supposed to make landfall tomorrow. Good for your Sweet B. Sounds like she is becoming quite the horse woman. My aunt died of Covid last winter - she was only 69. Very sad. I hope your aunt recovers. Those "Concerts in the Commons" look like a lot of fun. I am a "addicted" to walking. Hubby and I walk every day, except when it is pouring rain. I haven't ever figured exactly how far we walk in a year, but about 2.25 miles a day x 365 days. My calculation is that is over 800 miles a year, and we have been doing it at least 20 years. Glad you could get some linen for rug hooking. So many things are going up in price right now. I hope you have a good weekend and a restful, relaxing day tomorrow.

I'm so sorry for your Aunt. I'm sending up prayers for her! It's hard when the elderly get sick whether it's this pandemic or just the common cold. Hopefully she'll get past this. We all thought the vaccine would keep us safe but my friends at the hospital say many vaccinated are sick too. But it's the ones not vaccinated that are dying. It is hard to watch the news these days. I do hope your brother's area isn't hurt too bad by this hurricane. Hooray for Miss B! I wasn't that brave at her age. My Granddaughter takes lessons and loves it and I'm sure Miss B will shine at her new adventure! My garden has done pretty good. I'll be making more sauce tomorrow and freezing more peppers. I hope you have a good weekend and send that cool air our way! I do believe we're in for a cool down by Tuesday. Take care Cathy!

We, too, have had some humidity of late...but then it rains...it always rains these days it seems. What an untoward summer. I know I shouldn't complain but, dang...we have so very little summer here the way it is it seems. Your garden harvest looks wonderfully healthy.... I got rid of my canning supplies when it was just my husband and me but am now regretting it. Not that I could handle planting/tending a garden on my own at this point, but even if I bought produce from farmer's markets, it would be good having it. I did make some zucchini bread today...my neighbor was kind enough to give me a zucchini for soup and I had enough left for bread. Unfortunately I tried a different recipe and am not overly excited with it. The one I usually make is soooo good.....don't know why I thought I needed to try something different but I did. Sigh. Sad news about your aunt....praying for healing and recovery. ~Robin~

It is hot, humid, wet here in WI too.
Aww, I'm sorry about your aunt!
Yes, there is some sad, troubling news in our world!
Walking is on my list too! I will have a stick for support, but I'm doing it too.

Good for B, that is exactly how I used to be as a kid. Except I'd go into a pasture get on strange horse's back, hold onto the mane and ride. Don't think what I did was brave but stupid, lol.

Am glad I purchased a bolt of linen from Dorr before shipping and other prices went up; and you're right everything is going up because of gas prices and cost to transport items to the store. Praying for Louisiana, your Aunt, Americans in Afghanistan and America as terrorists and illegals come across into the US. There is a lot to pray for.

I'm very sorry to hear about your poor aunt. I hope that she will be OK. Miss B. looks so grown up and full of confidence. I'm sure she will do excellent with her riding lessons.

I never heard about Naked Ladies Lillies and had to look it up. Very interesting that they bloom after the foliage dies down. They are so pretty.

I no longer listen to the news as It's hard to believe what is going on in the world.
We certainly need some divine intervention to fix what is wrong with the world and I do a lot of praying also. I'll keep your auntie in my prayers.

My son has monster zucchinis in his garden and is letting them grow big for his friends who make zucchini bread but he's got way too many. lol.
Take care, hugs,
Julia

As Saundra said, there is so much to pray for. These are such scary times.
Prayers for your dear aunt!!!
Love that Miss B wanted the ornery horse ;-)
The days are changing much too quickly and I don't like it...not one little bit!

Yes, the news is depressing from world events to what's happening in the U.S. and so I never watch the news and only read the headlines and other storeis in the morning. I try to look for human interest stories to counterbalance the depressing ones. Sory to read about your aunt and hope she will be OK and glad your brother was out of the area when Ida hit. Good news is that Miss B is becoming a fearless rider!

I hate that summer is over, doesn't feel like I got to enjoy it with any trips, but I will enjoy the cooler temps and getting out for hikes.
It is great that Miss B can take lessons, I always loved riding when I was younger.
What is the price now? I still have a roll I bought from them years ago, still debating on wether to keep or sell my rug hooking supplies.
