Sticky Buiness

I am not a crust maker, since I found Julia Child's pastry book
at the dump, I gave her crust a try. I got rave reviews on my blueberry
pie!

We had a special overnight guest. She said "Gramie love you so much,so much"
She has my heart now she can have anything I own:)
She is a big pepe girl because pepe will play with her endlessly

It was sugaring weekend all the sugar houses opened to the public.
This is the guy that feeds the boiler. You can see the steam coming off the
syrup. It takes 40 gallons and 1/10 of a cord or wood to make 1 gallon of
syrup. Yes it is expensive but so worth it.

Now that's a lot of wood.

The is to grade the syrup. The windows are so
steamed because of the boil. Things have changed since I was a kid
and my grandfather made syrup. But it all still tastes good.

And of course there where hay rides.
Have a great week everyone!

Miss B is getting cuter by the day! Great pic with Pepe.
NOTHING like real maple syrup. My mom was the original frugal queen, but we always had real maple syrup!
Hugs :)

We were at a sugarbush house today and I bought lots of maple products, costly like you said but so tasty. A great experience.
I love that picture of your granddaughter and her grampy. Precious...

That pie looks perfect and yummy.

What fun you had! I'd love to see the syrup making process. Yes, that Miss B knows how to get your heart, doesn't she? Congratulations on your pastry! King Arthur Flour had a demonstration here a few weeks ago, and I still intend to make the pastry they showed.

*****we missed you on saturday...and pepe and his little
love look great together! we had friends who decided to throw a weekend party to make maple syrup.
we boiled and boiled the sap in their kitchen and wondered where all the steam was going. well...all over the house and down came every bit of wallpaper. we spent the entire weekend laughing and rehanging the stuff!!! there are little glimpses of spring here on the coast...if you overlook all of the snow! stay well...

Our sugar festival was a few weeks ago at Malabar Farms. If you've ever seen the movie "Shawshank", the scene where Red goes to find the box under the old oak tree is filmed on that farm. Anyway, they have horse wagon rides and seeing the process of making that syrup makes you realize why the price is so high! Looks like a fun weekend and those Grandbabies sure can carve out a huge spot on the heart! She's a cutie!

I always buy Grade A Amber syrup. I will have to take a ride next weekend to my favorite Maple Barn and buy myself a large jug. Miss Baby is as cute as ever.
