Snowway....

My daffodils on the hill are finally starting to bloom but guess what??? we are in for 6 to 8 inches of snow starting tonight into most of the day tomorrow uggggg!

 

Sat was fabulous! We were outside all day I worked in my gardens. I worked mostly in a garden that was a complete mess and had been neglected for a long time. It is starting to look good again. After feet up, sitting on the porch. We even had dinner out there! Our first one of the season.

I am still working on my rug. I was not that happy with the black background so with some help from my fellow hooker friends I am adding some very dark blue plaid. I have not done much as I have been watching a french show on Acorn TV and I have to read subtitles so no looking down or you lose the whole conversation. 

Wed I went to a small little grocery store to pick up milk and bread. I thought I would check out the flour since I have not seen any and I was on my last bag. Bingo!!!! one bag left 10 lbs!!! I felt like that ad for Ikea where she thinks they made a mistake on the prices and she yells for her husband to start the car. 

I saw this on facebook this week Stephen King had to have a tree taken down near his house so why not hire someone to carve the stump? Just fantastic!!! click on it to see all the detail.

As most of you know I run a bookstore with developmentally handicapped adults. This young woman who gives me the business when she thinks I am not doing something just right has been writing to me. I guess absents makes the heart grow fonder. Really she is sweet and funny and could run the bookstore with one hand tied behind her back.

Before this covid hit I ordered pants from LLBean. when I got them I tried them on and could not get them past my tiny little hips (not).

Well I did not get them back to the store so I decided to dig them out to maybe motivate me into losing a bit more weight. Well guess what they fit??? I have lost about 4 lbs not enough but I have been walking 3 to 4 miles every day! What ever happened I am grateful I like those pants.

Selling A Cutter...

I hit a thrift this week and found some goodies.

Can you tell I am always thinking of the kids at Easter and

every other holiday?

Family cookout on husband's side. Lots of fun our son in law in the green, husband's brother next to him,

and  husband in the straw hat. They were playing corn hole and by the looks of it son in law was winning.

There was lots of great food and

And cousins (only one missing) my sweet daughter in the white.

A full week ahead and a big thrift sale on Friday.

Snow,Snow, Snow

I am making progress on my rug. I hope to be done for Christmas.

The very lightest part of the sky I am pulling out I don't like it.

On Saturday we did a big of shopping and I was able to get more hand dyed wool

for the sky, so I should be all set. We also saw our sweet little grandbaby.

Today we stayed home all day. We slept late ate a late breakfast.

 I baked bread and cookies. I now have my feet up watching old movies while I hook.

Like most of you I have no words for the horror of this past week.

We hugged our little grand daughter a little tighter.

Our daughter has had a very hard time she has cried a river.

She is a teacher and being a mom of a little one she just sobs when

she thinks of it. We have turned the news off and do not read the Internet news.

we needed to make this house a place of peace.

Our prayers will be many.

On To Christmas!

I thought I would do a bit of decorating today. This is 

my ornament hangers. Oh yeah off to a good start.

The painting my husband purchased off a old guy

that had no money for about 80.00. We had no money ourselves we had just

purchased our first house, we were young and money was tight. But I guess David

felt he needed it more than we did. I now really love it we have had it at least 35 years.

Very folk art feeling.

Decorating isn't the only thing I have been doing. I have been busy hooking.

This is the pattern in Rug Hooking Magazine this month.

I made a few changes. I chose a lamb instead of a horse.

and I tried to make Santa rounder. I am waiting to get some back ground around the starts to decide if

I like them or not. I am hand cutting the strips for the tree and the background I will be glad

when I get better at that I am slow and crooked. Santa's beard and the fluff on his hat and cuffs is wool roving.

And what would a weekend be without some dump picking.

These have the tags on them made in the USA.

lead crystal. We have several yankee swaps, these with a bottle of wine

from one of the NH wineries sounds like a good gift to me.

David has so much Christmas spirit he has been running round outside putting lights on any

thing that doesn't move. The big problem he bought the lights last year at a close out sale

and not many match. So it looks a bit like the circus has come to town.

I say let him go he had a tough Christmas last year. (but oh my beautiful saltbox house)

A Very Fun Weekend

We had so much fun this weekend. we toured 3 NH wineries just beautiful.

This winery was on about an acre.

They had grapes to show and taste. I was shocked at how

sweet the grapes were nothing like supermarket grapes.

And of course we tasted wine. Some very different wines were

tasted. Honey, elderberry, apple, blueberries, peach and ginger to name a few.

Some of the winery's asked you to buy a wine glass for a few dollars each.

I have to say the one winery that didn't ask us to do that was the best.

We did buy a few bottles and I have plans to go back to around Christmas to some gifts.

 

We went with my brother in law and his wife. They stayed over and

brought a great hostess gift.

In the evening we went to see a comic Juston Mckinny he grew up in

Kittery Maine and he has the people down. If you get a chance go to see him you will

laugh a lot.

Ok aside from all of the wine drinking I did get something done.

this bunny pillow was backed with that great cloth piece I found.

I did a little crochet edge to fill in I think it looks pretty good.

We had a lot of rain this weekend but we made the best of it anyway.

I got a chance to read the new farmers almanac for us in the North East

it will be a year of low moisture. It looks like some snow but lots

of rain. If it means ice I would rather have the snow. But the temps are suppose

to be moderate. So we shall see.

Not So Hard To Bear

Our foliage is coming along slow but sure.

I got a chance to hit my favorite thrift. I found 4 magazines

that were dated October of this year at 10 cents each, and I found this

very large fabric sample.

Since I have not finished my little bunny I hooked this spring I thought

I would make a pillow. Here are the other two color choices.

I will use the darkest sample. I paid .60 cents for the whole thing.

And the big news I have finished binding the cat rug she is done and on the table.

When I cam home from work today this is what was in our tree!

it is three cubs, one is to the left of the mom and mom.

lord they were so cute look at the one at the top:)

I have a thankful journal and though I am not good at writing every night

I do lay my head on the pillow nightly and list all the things that I am thankful

for in that day. Tonight I will be thankful for seeing such a sweet sight.

Curtains..

Look what came in the mail today! I haven't even cracked the cover I want to

sit and digest it. I want a vintage travel trailer so much! husband is not so

sure about it and really it is not in the budget right now.

My close friend is cleaning out her parents house this summer.

so here is a little more.

My boy friend and I work together in this city, but we are going to my home, several states distant,

to be married. Is it all right for us to travel together in the train without a chaperon? It is an over night trip.

Yes, but preferably you occupy quarters in separate cars. and of course you observe all proprieties. The people in the train are now considered proper chaperone's to you.

Oh my goodness the times have changed!

 

My First Rug

This is a close up of a section of my first rug. The two biggest mistakes I made and continue to make now and then. Is I hooked to low. You are suppose to hook as high as the stip is wide.

and to close together. My first rug weighs a ton. Lately I have seen a few over hooked rugs.

You are suppose to see holidays (blank spots on the back) if it ripples and doesn't lay flat it is over hooked. Not only does your rug not lay flat it could break the backing. Then you are sunk.

This rug backing is burlap I was lucky it didn't break and I was able to get it to lay flat. I did unhook some to help it lay flat.

 I was taught by a very sweet Mcgowan trained older woman.

When my friend and I took our first lesson she asked us what would we like to lean we both said with a big smile "Primitive" She sighed a big sigh handed us a mcgowan pattern catalog for us to shop from

and told us the biggest cut was a six. Sounded ok to me what did I know? We preceded to learn from one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. Sadly she passed away but oh boy would she hate what I learned this past weekend.

I went to a hook-in in Westford Ma. I sat with a few friends it was nice to see Courtney.

We met a lot of very nice ladies and saw some very beautiful rugs.

A new friend showed me how to do hand cut, about a 10. Oh boy is it wide and oh boy is it fun.

This is what I accomplished on Sat. The hardest part is cutting the strips. I need to get in the rhythm of the size and getting it straight. This will end up with Miss Baby.

And speaking of Miss Baby we spent the whole day with her today. So much fun she had us laughing all day. It is so much fun to be Gammie
