I woke up early to the sound of rain again. Beautiful beautiful rain.
Last night I took some time to go through my mother's recipes. I found a bread recipe and a cookie recipe that sounded very much like my grandmother's. I got to work this morning making molasses cookies.
I used my pullman pan and it came out pretty good. Next time I will cook it an extra 5 to 6 minutes but it's a keeper.
And bread, oatmeal bread...

There is nothing better on a rainy day to have a full cookie jar. The memories these cookies brought back were warm and wonderful. I miss my grand still after all these years.
I have made a deal with myself for this winter. If I do one hour of housework, I am free to hang out in my little studio with no guilt. (I am the only one who puts pressure on myself). That housewife guilt.
I vacuumed and changed out the curtains for the winter yesterday and besides cooking today I wiped down my cupboards and my yellowware on top of my cupboards. (Boy did they need cleaning).
Every window you look out of you see these beautiful trees. I will miss the beautiful color.

I tried bone builders again it was a bit better, and they agreed to let me use bigger weights.
A quiet weekend ahead husband is being operated on, on Tuesday.
Enjoy the last of this beautiful fall.

It looks very similar here, beautiful color! But we're also having rain, so the leaves will soon be falling.
I have that same housewife guilt!
The bread and cookies all look good.
Hi Yaya! So sorry to hear that your husband is having surgery. Prayers that all goes well. It's always nice to have things cleaned and freshened. I love all your baking. Seeing the pictures of all that baked goodness is making me hungry! I hope everything goes well in the coming week. See you again soon!
When housework inflicts guilt, that’s bad! Enjoy your studio with a clear conscience, I say.
Beautiful yellows against the red of your Winter curtains. Wish I lived in your house. Love it. Cookies sound good too! Janice
I love that this brings you closer to your mom and gram. That's so cool. I used to have a pullman pan, they were fun! Loved the square. Happy Eating!
Love all of this - the trees, the yellowware bowl, and yes, I like your deal with yourself-that’s fair! Could you share the bread recipe if you have time - or maybe just the ingredient list? I’m always looking for one similar to my grandmother’s - handed down, tried & true are the best. I’ll do a search on your blog to see what great recipes I’m missing! Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your husband.
When looking out my windows I'm seeing almost baren trees with leaves but a lot of pines. So there's mostly green when look outside.
Beautiful leaves/view, lovely home, yummy food…what more could one want?
Housewife guilt, we all have it! Have a happy day, Virginia
We are seeing lots of yellow here now. It's the oaks changing colors finally.
Hope your husband's operation goes well.
The first comment hasn't showed up yet and I was going to clarify it. Yes, many leaves have fallen due to the drought. So what is left of leafy trees haven't turned pretty. They are still green, along with the many pine trees in the woods. So when I look outside my windows I don't see gold, red, etc. I see green but then the brown and yellow ones are on the ground.
Beautiful views out your windows!
We also got some welcome rain. I still have some yard cleanup to do, but hopefully the weather will warm up a bit to make it bearable.
You sure have been ambitious. There is so much I need to do, but if it doesn't get done, I only need to look in the mirror to find the slacker...lol!
Prayers for hubby and hugs to you ;-)
Your views are gorgeous! Yay for rain here too.
Oh, that golden tree. Those are my favorites. And your winter curtains are fantastic!
housework, crafting and having fun, we do need to find a balance!! the trees and autumn colors are beautiful by you, we are not having a grand fall. i love to bake and cook but baking is my favorite. i really like the bowl in the second picture and that you have favorite recipes that have been your family!!
I hope all goes well for your hubby's operation. I'm getting in the mood to really clean. i also change curtains as the season's change. Yours are lovely! I love these rainy, cool days that move me to my oven and baking! Those cookies probably made your lovely home smell awesome! We had a tree in our front yard at our old house and every fall the living room would glow in the morning sun! I was sad to see the owners have had it removed.
I make those "deals" with myself too. It really helps to get things done AND provides guilt-free reading or Pinterest browsing.
All the best to your husband when he has his surgery.
"Nothing gold can stay," but it can stay in your heart...
Ah gorgeous pictures of such lovely fall colors. I smiled about doing an hour's worth of housework and then not feeling guilty about spending time in the studio. Think I will make that a plan as well. Hope your husband's surgery goes well. Take care and have a good weekend. Hugs!
Is there a way to get a notification when you have a new blog post up?
What beautiful fall colors. The trees are so pretty. Your cookies sound delicious. Hope all goes well for your hubby's operation.
