Falling Into Fall

Can you believe my Sweet B is now going into the 6th grade???
And just how cute is she?? I know I am partial but really, she is a doll!!

Aug 31 we were close to 100 and humid September 1st 70 and dry like someone flipped a switch. I will tell you it made me very happy.
We went to the last concert on the common last week and could not believe how the light had changed in just one week. The days are noticeably shorter, my one complaint about this time of year.
Today a gentle rain and chilly high 70s.

We were going to a friend's house for a cookout yesterday, so I baked some cookies to take. King Arthur flour chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.
It was nice to see an old friend. It was my husband's best friend from high school. His mom was there (90) she came right over and hugged my husband and told lots of stories on him when he used to hang with her son in school lol (his face was so red at times lol). She was a delight; she knits up a storm and is as spunky and bright as a new penny.

I canned 6 pints and 6 quarts of tomatoes today.
I have 4 qtrs. of pasta sauce in the freezer I think we are all set for the winter at this point on tomatoes.

We have a bumper crop of acorns this year. I haven't seen this many in many many years. There was an old road agent (country title for Highway supervisor?) in this town who told us years ago that meant a very hard winter ahead. We have also had a hawk here for some time. Not sure what that means except we have no chipmunks, squirrels, or birds right now. Our very bad bear has been live trapped and hauled away. I am on several hiking sites on FB and someone was taking about a young bear trying to get into his tent ummm just where did they take him? yikes!
***
I haven't picked up my rug hook in weeks and weeks. I got an email from the woman I had just met last spring about getting together this fall for hooking at the library. I think I need to get back at it to see if I remember how. I also have a 3-day rug camp coming up in October.
***
I hope you are all happy and healthy and enjoying this beautiful time of year. I am sorry for those in the west, the horrid temps and lack of rain.
Have a wonderful week!

Sweet B is growing so fast...the legs of a ballerina. Curiosity killed the cat as they say so I'm wondering who the woman is that knows David so well. The tomatoes look yummy as do your cookies. I recently read that acorns can be used as a dye for fabric/wool. Learn something new everyday! It sounds like this is the year to give it a try.
Miss you Roomie.

We've been sighting leaf colors other than green this week. Fall is here. Much needed rain all day today.

It was hot and humid yesterday and again today; temps in the 90's. I'd welcome 70's but it will be coming quite soon and the leaves are turning already.
Glad the bear didn't get into the tent and at least you don't have that one to worry about any longer.
B is maturing and can't believe she will be in the 6th grade either.

Miss B is growing up (and beautifully!) for sure. I had never heard all those legends about acorns. I only knew what my mother taught me and that was that an abundance of them meant a rough winter ahead. Sadly, I don't have any oaks here in Nod...but at the lake I do. But I haven't been there since the beginning of the year, so I couldn't say. I have not been productive in any department these days...hooking, stitching, or anything else...so, you're not alone. Chilly, chilly, here...trying to talk myself out of turning on the fireplace. ~Robin~

Miss B. is such a sweetie. Time is going too fast. It's hard to keep up.

I wouldn't be surprised if we were getting a harsh winter. I don't look forward to cold weather.

The cookies look tempting. I better look the other way. lol.

I haven't pulled loops in ages but soon will be starting hooking with my group again. I'm looking forward to it.

It started to rain again a few minutes ago.
Take care,
Hugs, Julia

Well Sweet B is a doll for sure! Interesting read on the acorns. I will have to see if we have a bumper crop of acorns. Dont want a long hard Winter, but we sure could use some rain. Our pines are dying throughout the state it seems with the lack of rain. I have not pulled a loop since Saundra's hooking challenge earlier this year. I know you will have fun if you join the group. Your granddaughter is lovely and she looks happy to be starting back in school. I think that as much as kids like to be off from school for months, they are glad to return in the fall. Your canned tomatoes looked so good and you will certainly enjoy them this winter.

Yes, your Sweet B is precious and at such an enjoyable age. Teaching Sixth Grade was my favorite. I loved those kids at that age! My youngest granddaughter is in seventh. Wow, where go the years down that tunnel of time as Louis Lamour wrote. I am sure you will remember precisely what to do when you take up hooking again.

So happy your bear is G-O-N-E. That has to be a relief.
Miss B in the sixth grade? How did that happen?
I haven't picked up my hook in weeks, either. I thought by now I would find the time but there is always something else I feel is more important to accomplish...sigh.

I love fall. Your grand is adorable. I hope to be a shiny penny at 90 - love how you described her. I feel the same about my felting needle...I'm teaching monthly classes and have no idea what or made any samples....

They do grow up fast, but it is nice when we can do things with them, as older kids, that they were too young for, before. I am loving the cooler temps, but I really hate not being able to go in the water, so hopefully the temps stay nice enough for that. I wish I had done a bigger garden this year, I do miss fresh tomato sauce.

Miss B in 6th grade?? Whoa, time has flown but what a lovely young lady she is! I hope she has a fabulous year. Our temps have been chilly in the AM but warmer during the day and I can feel that Fall is around the corner. When we moved here 21 yrs ago the previous owner had planted an oak in the backyard. It was so tiny then but huge now! It's just starting to have acorns and I'll have to test out the old wives tales you mentioned! Around here the wooly bear caterpillar decides how harsh the winter will be. They are brown with a black stripe. The bigger the black stripe the worse the winter. I saw my first one the other day...totally black! Yikes, we're in trouble! Have a good weekend Cathy!

You've been a very productive woman! And a great guest/visitor, too! I'm so glad your neighborhood bear has found a new home!

I've been more or less offline for the past couple of weeks. I'll never catch up with you, but hopefully I can keep up!
