The Recipe Box

As some of you know I just bought a recipe box filled with
hand written recipes, this is recipe #1. Since we are having a family
gathering tomorrow.

I looked for something sweet that could be a pick and go as we will
be outside. this is called toffee cookies. Success! they are yummy.

1 stick of oleo(I used real butter)
1 cup of brown sugar cook until just bubbles

cover cookie sheet with foil then line pan with about 24 graham crackers.
Pour hot sugar and butter over graham crackers sprinkle with nuts (she used peanuts)
I used mixed nuts chopped and I sprinkled a bit of salt to get the salt/sweet taste.
put in a 350 oven for 7 minutes
(do not over cook)
it is a very humid day with rain off and on so not the best day to make candy but it is very good.
***
I have several casseroles to try in cooler weather.
We are off to gather with family tomorrow, fingers crossed for a good weather day.

That looks yummy, old recipes are the best. I have a couple of my mom's old books and use those the most since I cook from scratch.

I love things like that--old hand written recipes--old diaries. I always wonder what the woman was like. Where she lived, When did she die--things like that. I think we should take a picture and put it in our recipe boxes or journals and then whomever got them at the estate/garage sale would know what we looked like :-)

That looks good! I bet there are sorts of recipes in there. If you want my recipe for Zabaione, let me know! :)

Recipe sounds yummy but since I'm 'in training' to be sure my cholesterol is okay for a blood test in November decided it is best to start being good now.

Sounds yummy! Looking forward to more of these recipes as the hand written ones are usually the best!

It looks like a Peanut Brittle recipe that has been altered with Graham Crackers.

I love Peanut Brittle but I would have to leave out the Graham Crackers as most have a soy by product in them.

Have a happy Sunday.

Been thinking of you a lot this week because a year ago you were helping me plan my trip to Maine. Wow a year has passed already and I am wanting to go back so bad already. haha
Hope your day with family was a blast I know they loved your goodies.
It is so hot out side here that you can't enjoy yourself at all.
Take care
Love ya

Zuchinni bread with raisins sounds delcious. The toffee cookie recipe is similiar to one made with saltine crackers, I am going to give your version a try. Enjoy your time with family. Tomorrow Mr. DT and I are heading to Mt. Washington, I'll be thinking of you!!

Love this post! Thanks for sharing it. At a family gathering we ladies were talking about an old recipe the other day, my 20 something niece asked, "What is oleo?". Sigh, we really felt old then!! Haha! Glad it is cooler, I can use the oven again!
