Making The Best of It All

Husband has had a big box of assorted puzzles, and he is working his way through them one at a time.

I am cooking it seems a lot.
I made scalloped potatoes with meatloaf for dinner tonight.

Since we did not go out for Valentine's
I made WWII chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.

I made chicken pie on Thursday, truly the best one I have ever made.

I dyed more wool; The colors do not photograph that well.

It is so satisfying to hook with the wool I dyed.

And it is a very good sign that Sweet B is crafting again after being so sick. Isn't this darling?!!!

It has been snowing a lot! So, I have been watching this during any down time and listening to my audio book when doing other things.
******
The amount of sickness in this state is horrifying. Between covid, the flu, etc. etc. So, we are staying close to home for a while. Not that we could go much of anywhere anyway. We are at the end of a major snowstorm I think we have 10 inches out there (on top of the 2 feet we already have on the ground) and now it is sleeting.
After the storm stops the wind will blow hard and the temps will drop. So really who would want to go out there anyway???
We are tucked in plenty of food, plenty of heat, and lots lots of hobbies and things to keep us busy.
See you in the spring lol.

Your valentines chocolate cake looks inviting. To my knowledge I've never eaten the WWII recipe. I looked it up and one recipe calls for apple cider vinegar, what does that ingredient do to the taste?

I'm so impressed with your dying your wool and then hooking with it.
Glad sweet B is doing better!
Pride and Prejudice is so good, perfect choice for a cold winter day.
It's been snowing here too and tomorrow some really cold air is coming. Sigh....

Your food always look delicious! I love meatloaf and scalloped potatoes. I love the wool you have dyed. We have had a quiet weekend inside here too because both hubby and I have the seasonal crud. I hope you guys stay well and have a good week.

Yum! Your food is quite enticing! This seems to be the winter that won’t quit. It was reported, though, that the groundhog did see his shadow….two weeks ago. Do we have four more weeks to go? Beautiful wool!

I wish I liked to cook and bake…but they are both 4 letter words in my world 🤣🤣🤣. Hook is the good 4 letter word.
Happy Miss B is feeling better.
It is so hard to capture the true colors of wool. Your rug is off to a great start.
Your weather sounds much worse than ours 😡. The wind is howling here and we won’t be above freezing for the next week. Ugh!

We had that storm over night. Lots of snow to move here this morning. You sound cozy there. Take care.

I hunkered down all weekend. We went from snow, to freezing rain, and back and forth. Bob worked the store...and folks actually came in which surprised me. I dont like driving in this stuff. Oh well, it was good for us. We have been having fires in our fireplace at night too. Love the colors of your wool and the flower you are working on. I think I am goin g to get my rug progress out today and hook a few loops. Janice

If you 'have plenty of food, plenty of heat, and lots lots of hobbies and things to keep us busy' I'd stay in too. There is a lot of sickness going round. Hard to believe it is with all that cold and snow though.
Let me tell you your food and crafts are totally amazing. Guess what my favorite cake it? Chocolate with Peanut Butter icing!

Not sure what we've gotten here south of you. We were away most of the week so didn't see the snowfall midweek. Arrived home in this storm and made it home after flying in to Manchester. I 89 was one lane most of the way to Lebanon.

Glad you made it home safe and sound. I think we got 10 inches if heavy snow.
We had 2 ft on the ground..more snow than we have had in a few years.

Scalloped potatoes. I must make them -- I didn't at Christmas and why not? Thanks for the idea -- sounds wonderful. So does peanut butter frosting. And I think your wool colors look fabulous. Keep cozy. I hear New England has it worse than we do!

I sure feel the same as you. I'm hunkered down for the winter. It was in the negative digits all weekend. I've done some baking, quilting, and napping. Spring has to come, doesn't it?

I can’t imagine having 3 feet of snow – I have to agree,, puzzles, good food, cozy days, and evenings is the perfect way to spend this kind of winter! I think the good thing is - as long as we’re safe and warm - weather like yours makes us slow down and just “be.” Much needed in today’s hectic world - You’re doing it just right, oh, and that cake, peanut butter and chocolate sounds wonderful!

I've been MIA for a few weeks...so sorry, but have read through your prior posts trying to catch up on your world. Those frozen water falls are wonderful. How cool to live within walking distance of falls like that. Sounds like your weather has been truly wintery. We've had snow and bitter cold as well...but I don't think we're due for any more snow through at least the weekend. I think baking, cooking, crafting, good books and old movies (love me some Cary Grant!) all go hand in hand with cold, blustery weather. I've been down for the count for a while so have gotten none of the above done but hoping to get back on my feet sometime relatively soon. You're right...there's a lot going around. When I went to the hospital, I had to spend 2 nightmarish nights in the ER before they could get me a regular room. ~Robin~

I am a devoted Missouri reader of your blog but have never submitted a comment. I absolutely had to comment on this one when you mentioned making a WWII cake! My grandmother made this little cake frequently but called it "Wacky Cake". It is so good, rich and moist. The funny thing is my husband requested one for Valentines day so we had one too😊!! ...keep hooking, cooking, and writing your blog...love it!

Thank you so much for your comment I found this recipe several years ago and have made it many times. It is so good. I usually just put powdered sugar on the top it is so moist.
