THE NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT

Sunday, we went to our daughter's house to celebrate her birthday a bit early. Her lights went out for a few minutes
while we went frogging at the pond in their neighborhood.

Once you catch a frog (He was a big one) you team up with another
frog catcher (her dad) and you put them a few feet from the pond and see who hops to the pond first. B's big guy won!
By the time we left to go home (after dark) they had closed the easy access to home because of some accident. Sooooo We had to go all the way around....

To the Kancamagus highway (Ok highway is a very lose term here)
See this road? Think pitch dark! No bigger than a cow path at some points. It is used mainly for access to hiking trails in the White Mountains National Forest.

Across this bridge and onto the highway. Well at least it was wider than this cow path, and it had lines, it was very slow going for our old eyes.
We turn into our neighborhood over an hour later and we see a woman who we do not know walking with a flashlight and staring down at her phone??? I get a text from the neighbor "Do you have power?" Well, no we don't but the generator is happily going, and we are just fine. But the woman with the flashlight was staying at one of the air B and Bs here and when the power went out, we think she freaked. It is dark here no streetlights and no cell phone service. I have no idea where she walked to, but it would be a good 4 miles in either direction to pick up service. City folk lol. The lights were not out that long, and I hope she was fine. Oh, and my daughter reports we had just left, and they lost power. It was a dark night.

Ok I am having picture issues with my phone, but I did pick up my hook again and this is where I am on my rug. the right lower corner is all I have left. I am not sold on the border I have chosen that may change. But it felt good to hook and at least chat with other people even if they were just knitting lol.

This stuck me funny so I will leave you with this.
Have a wonderful week.

Sounds like you had quite an adventure in the dark.

Sooo, did the power go out because of the accident or due to storms? And isn't wonderful to have a generator? Funny about the lady with the phone....She would not survive here in Nod. I rarely get cell service here...and, for some reason, cell phone charges drain to nothing in a heartbeat on our property. It drove workers absolutely crazy during WWR. I LOVE the funny! LOL. ~Robin!

We lost power a few weeks ago and I actually enjoyed being without. Forced me to unplug and it really felt good. I like your rug! Just wonder if that Air BNB had provisions for folks if the power did go out...like candles or instructions on what to do. Might be a good idea, cause you never know when the power would go out. DANG, can't see your rug too well and the 'pin the tail on the donkey' cartoon enlarged but your rug photo didn't. Glad you got home safely with the narrow roads and power outage.

I hate power outages and we had our fill in June with 6 days without power and we don't have a generator...yet. I would have freaked walking in a strange area in the dark. I know how dark it gets here and laugh when I go to visit my sister where I grew up because it's so light at all hours of the day! I would sometimes forget to turn on my car lights and I'm glad my go on automatically! Your hooking looks good to these non crafty eyes! Frog hunting and then having a contest is so fun. I don't know about you but the mosquitoes here are horrible and hanging around a pond in the evening would find us eaten alive! Have a good rest of the week Cathy. I'm bumming out because my son had to cancel the Chicago business trip so we're not going to be able to see him after all. So sad!

I can imagine having to travel the long way around to get back to your house, not fun in the dark. I have always wanted to go their at night though, and see the stars and maybe get lucky to see northern lights sometime. Frog hopping sounds like a fun game. My son has a run off pond in front of their house and it is full of frogs. Power outs are no fun, we have full hook up now with solar so that will be nice this winter, hate losing food and heat. Love your new rug, that is really beautiful.

Ok so first off I can't get that song out of my head "THE NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT IN THE CITY" by Journey! And I gotta say that's just creepy...that strange woman walking your street it the dark!where the heck was she coming from and where the heck was she going?.
So Miss B's frog won the race. Yippee,
About Kancamagus Highway....awesome road...love it but that brings me back to the night Dennis Deb Canada's and "Lenny" were here. Uncle Leon or Arthur Bolduc lived down off that road! Lol

Yes, we have driven the Kank and even in daylight it can be challenging, especially is you have an auto emergency as we did a couple of years ago. We found out that there is no cell service in most areas there. Hope the woman on the road made it someplace safe and glad you made it hope safely.

I don't mind power outages except during the flood because we can't pump water out of the basement. We have a Generac generator so we are ok that way but I certainly don't like driving in the dark. I feel so disoriented driving in the dark. I'm glad you made it home safely.

Bravo to Miss B.'s frog for winning the race.

I too tried to enlarge the photo of your rug but it didn't enlarge and couldn't see it very well. I hope the woman with the cell phone got home safely.

Hugs,
Julia

That rug is a stunner! Really gorgeous and a treasure. Nice work. I haven't lost power lately but it's always frustrating when it happens! A generator is so smart!
