It was a cold week. My walk was either very cold or snowy.
But I was happy for the fresh air and exercise.
I am already seeing a big difference in the length of the days.
When I get home now after 5 I have time to get a walk in before dark. It makes such a big difference to have the extra light. That is my biggest complaint about winter is the darkness.
This weekend is the great fishing derby of the Lakes Region.
(this is not my picture) But people come from all around to fish, the prizes are amazing, a new boat or 15,000. Plus it is the winter vacation week for the Massachusetts kids. They all flock to our state for skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, etc, etc.... So we are busy in this area! to say the least!
A resort that rents out very rustic cabins to people who pay a lot of money to stay there cuts ice every year off the lake. Yes each porch has an icebox and gets an ice delivery every day through the summer! They chip the ice for their cocktails or and to keep the beer cold lol. Really it is beautiful and right on the lake. We have been lucky enough to be invited there for dinner a few times. ( They have an amazing dining hall)
Again these are not my pictures but that is how thick the ice is on our lake right now. How beautiful? I feel very blessed to live here cold and all.

I got my second vaccine on Wed. I have an auto immune issue, Addisons (president Kennedy had it also that is why he always looked so tan) and had a bit of an issue for about 10 hours. Achy and tired, I did what I was suppose to do and it was over in no time. The reason I know 10 hours I woke up at 2 am with the achyness and by noon I headed out for my 4 mile walk. I am so happy this is behind me and now to see Sweet B!
I hope you all had a lovely valentine's day. I got cards from friends and husband. A video call from Sweet B and family. It was perfect!
Have a wonderful healthy week!

Glad to hear you are recovered from your second vaccine. I got my second vaccine on Friday and was achy and tired Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. I woke up this morning feeling fine and have done my walk and my workout today, so all is back to normal. I am also noticing that it is staying light a little longer every day. Have a good week and I will see you again soon.
Please fast forward me to June! I know the days are getting longer, and it isn't really the darkness I dislike, but the bitter cold. This morning it was -27º (without the windchill) AGAIN....It's been over a week now and it becomes crippling. Harvesting the ice fascinates me. They must have a machine that cuts it?? And they store it until summer....like the old ice houses??? No one would fix a cocktail using the ice from our lake unfortunately....it is not spring fed so it isn't as pristine as yours is. Glad you had some special Valentine wishes....it was pretty much a non-event here. ~Robin~
I'm seeing a big difference with longer daylight hours also and to be frank, we had a very good winter so far and not much snow still although we are getting a warning of a snow storm coming but today is sunny and blue skies.
Wow, the ice is thick on the lake. The ice on the St John River is not very thick it must be because of strong currents. We have had several thaws this winter already. but I'm looking forward to spring.
Valentine is kind of low key here. When I was a kid, we used to exchange little valentines with our school friends, and now it has become so commercialized, like Christmas and Easter.
Take care and enjoy the peace that comes from getting your second vaccine.
Hugs, Julia
You nor I would do well in other parts of the world where it is dark 24 hours per day for weeks. My Icelandic friend says it is hard to deal with for even those who were born there. Like Robin it was a non event here too.
Glad you got your shots! I'm in the over 65 group and haven't gotten mine yet. They are moving slow here in Ohio I guess. We're getting a big storm this afternoon. I know it's going to be cold also but I'm ready to face this and hopefully Spring will arrive next month and no more big storms. It's nice to see it light after 6pm! I love when it's light in the evening and I can go and do yard work until dark! Have a good week!
I hope your Valentine's Day was special in some way ;-)
Glad to hear you got your second shot so you can now see your beloved Miss B. With hubby's past issues, I'm sure you are very relieved.
Being much further west in the time zone, we are still light after 6pm. The time will be springing forward in a few weeks. I always do a happy dance!
Growing up we would go camping and the campgrounds sold blocks of ice for your cooler that they had cut from the lakes the previous winter. It still amazes me.
How cool to have an ice block for your cocktails or drinks! We are in for 9 inches of snow overnight which will make the ice rise even more. UGH. Glad you had a nice Valentine's! Janice
I agree about the daylight. I noticed the days getting longer too. Pretty cool about the ice blocks. Some of my family had 1st & 2nd's - all said the 2nd no matter which one was worst.
I have notice that it is staying light longer. So nice to see this.
Glad you got your vaccine. Still waiting here in Canada. I hope soon. Can't wait to get back to some sort of normal life, but don't think it will happen soon.
Have a great day!
Janet
Thanks for the update on the reaction to the second shot and I know you are relieved it's in the past so you can visit your granddaughter soon. We hope to be able to do the same after our mid-March second shot but most likely won't plan any family visits right away although it would be nice to see family in RI at Easter...maybe possible? Those ice blocks look lik winter will be around a bit longer as I see the all day light snow falling outside my window now. It is rather lovely like a snow-globe scenic.
Hope you're doing well. I was tired and had a headache after my second vaccination, but got back to normal in a couple of days. Loved seeing the ice photographs. Though I've lived in New York for over forty five years I grew up in New England and went to college in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Miss New England!
