We had a nor'easter blow in on Wed night into Thur.
Even though we had trees trimmed and 4 large ones taken down this summer, we still had half a tree fall down.
So husband got out the chain saw and freed us. Of course we lost power for about 24 hours. When we know there is a bad storm coming we fill the tub with water so we can at least flush the toilets. But this time I forgot. When we lose power we lose EVERYTHING! I did not do well this time. Usually I can do 24 hours ok but anything after that I am over it but not this time I was very frustrated. We are thinking of getting a generator but they are pricey and not used very much.
The next day I saw this from our Walmart. Made me smile.
Family Halloween party this weekend. My brother in law and his wife hosted and did a wonderful job.
A bouncy house for the kids which they all loved!
They had several different games and he gave out prizes just like a real carnival. (my brother in law) He even had little rubber duckies in his koi pond for fishing for the kids!
It was a beautiful day and he decorated the whole yard.
The whole yard was very festive.
This sweetie niece took the family picture.
And this is her scary boyfriend lol. he was in the bouncy house and the kids just loved it!!
This is another niece she is pregnant and she and her husband dressed up as Tom Hanks in cast away. Of course her belly is Wilson lol.
We still have some leaves on the trees but the wind blew the bulk of them off, we have lots of fall clean up ahead of us.

I am working on a UFO rug that I put away several years ago it is slow going but I am going to keep at it until I just can't stand it any more or it is finished.

Have a wonderful week.

Cannot wait to see your UFO. The nor'easter was mild here and just left. Normally when I know it will be a significant one I also store water for brushing my teeth in a jug and for toilet in the tub. This time it wasn't going to be so bad here...thankfully. But I did see a huge limb fall from the tree as I was sitting and hooking.
And I had the A/C on most of the weekend.
We can prepare and prepare but something still can do something to the best of plans.
Happy your weekend was better than the Wed/Thurs blow.
I love the idea of a family Halloween party. Yours looked like lots of fun (and nice weather) !

We bought a generator after being without power for 3 days due to ice storm, nearly 24 hours after tornadoes in the area and more ice storms a couple of times. It's large enough to keep the refrigerator & freezer plus a couple of lights going, and by shifting cables, run the well pump. Our gas fireplace runs without electricity, so we also run a fan to move a bit of heat from the living room to the kitchen in winter. We don't start the generator unless it's a wide-spread outage where we're pretty sure power will be out for a long while. We also still have old fashioned land line phone since they work even if power is out - no worries about what if cell phone batteries run out.
Generators are not cheap to buy, and not cheap to run (goes through gas fast!) but we like having it on hand, especially since we think ice storms will become more common in our area as the climate and weather patterns change.
The party looks like it was a lot of fun!
Just Gail you are right they are pricy. We had a land line but it went out with the power. Connected to the cable. We have a Wood stove in the basement which keeps us plenty warm. We lost it for four days last October. I appreciate the olds and how hard it must of been.

A great family fun photo. The Halloween party looks like fun.
So sorry you lost your power for 24 hours. We didn't lose ours but we lost a lot of leaves from our trees. There is still some color but much less than before the storm.
Last year we bought a generator and also got a special electrical panel put in for the next time. They are pricy and also they take a lot of gas but they are necessary to keep the frozen food frozen and the food in the refrigerator safe and pump water. We just cover the freezer with thick woolen blankets and we only run the generator intermittently to save gas. We can expect to have more storms and floods. We also fill the tub with water.
A wood stove is great for cooking and keeping us warm.

Your Halloween party always looks like so much fun.
Happy you survived the nor'easter with minimal damage!
Looking forward to the UFO reveal :)
So sorry to hear about that Noreaster. I was wondering if it would hit you and I guess it did. Wonderful Family Halloween party. Looks like all had fun! Janice
I have a friend in Maine and she lost power for a few days. She has a generator but it runs on gas and when they ran out they couldn't get more gas because the gas stations were out of power too and no pumps could work! Not fun...glad you made it OK and I hope the cleanup goes well. (When our power goes out we also loose everything because we have an all electric house and a well..we don't have a generator either) What a great Halloween party! I might have to steal this idea for ours next year! So fun. I just love this time of year! Have a great week!
