I will admit it here and now I feel I can no longer hook a rug.
There I have said it and last night I piled it and walked away.
I was an ok rug hooker but I can't even get started now.
I have started one rug 5 times and pulled out every single loop I put in 5 times. Is it just one rug? nope I have 3 rugs balled up in that corner, I couldn't start or I started and couldn't continue.
I went to my guild meeting looking for inspiration on Sat.
we had Lisanne Miller from P is for Primitive who bought cushing as our speaker. She was talking about color planning and borders.
Her program was up lifting and wonderful.
I didn't even pull my rug out of my bag to hook while I was there.
But I was feeling good and home I came and started right in.
It went from bad to worse most of the night.
So I tried the next day and the next until I piled it in the corner
last night and went to bed.
So maybe I am not a rug hooker any more.
Or maybe I have compared myself so much to all the amazing brilliant rug hookers out there I can't get over myself.
But until then I have gone to find my mojo I sure hope it shows up soon. I do not like the new non-hooker that I have become.

Cathy, Oh boy do I relate to what you are going through! I've been in a hooking, designing, dyeing slump here for quite some time! And to top it off I hate the last rug I hooked!
It's time for us to get back in the saddle! LOL!! Two Cathy's looking for their mojo!
I think we'll both find it... probably hiding right there in that big ol' pile of wool! LOL!
Hugs and Blessings!!

So sorry to hear your hooking mojo is still MIA! I hope you find it soon!
BTW...how is your friend?
Hugs :)

I know that feeling, it seems everything I do lately is not up to par for me.
If you are trying to compare to others, you will never be happy, do it for yourself and the enjoyment of just hooking and having a rug in your home that you have made, that is what is important to me with rugs.

Hope you get your mojo back soon. I wish we had some wool stores around here, cause I want to start a rug and I don't like purchasing on line. Janice
Oh dear Cathy, I hope it's just be a passing phase. Just put it all away for now and do other thing that brings you joy.
We all go through some kind of withdrawal from things we used to do. Some day it might be calling your name again. There are a great number of other hobbies to pass the time and spring is almost here.
Hugs,
Julia
Well I am so glad you shared that. I think I feel the same way. When I started hooking and I just visited blogs, I was always encouraged by primitive hookers. Then I started going to that facebook group and I doubt myself and hate my style and I know I am comparing myself to others.
I want to go back to where I hooked for me. I hope you don't give up or quit because I have always liked and admired your hooking. I remember Kim telling me when I first started and I was complaining about my loops being twisted and she said, " Just keep hooking and it will all work out." It did.
As the wise Theodore Roosevelt said, "Comparison is the thief of joy." Do your own thing! I have a couple of rugs started that I have put down...and come back to at a later time...sometimes years later. One thing I learned...hook something small and finish it. It helps reset that mojo to see a completed rug/mat. Good luck!

I have had brief episodes of mojo loss. It was usually when I got bored with the rug that once I was gungho about hooking. One such rug was put away for about 5 years, hooked a little on it and back it went into hiding for a couple other years. But then it was retrieved from its imprisonment and finished.
In between those years of imprisonment was successful in working on other rugs. Hopefully you'll get your mojo back soon.
Morning Cathy, sad one one loses their Mojo. I like you started a hooked mat, didn't like, pulled it apart and never hooked again. Hope you do, Blessings Francine
I have felt that way about certain handiwork crafts I do.
Going Gung-Ho on a crocheted sweater for spring and all of a sudden, got a bit mixed up on the pattern, ripped it out, started again, then threw it in the yarn basket and there it still sits. I can't get into the mood to go back to it.
Awww....these things happen...sometimes it's the "forcing" that dampens the mojo. Think back when you first started hooking... what was it that attracted you to it? For me it was how the wool felt, how the colors warmed my eyes and how relaxed pulling loops made me feel... so, maybe walking away from it for awhile is what you need... to remember that first "spark"... and to simply hook your own way! :-)
Hi Cathy,
So many words of wisdom here to help encourage you and let you know that you are NOT ALONE!!
I think that anyone who creates will go through slumps and it can be so difficult to get out of it!! Please know that you are in good company and taking a break may be just what you need right now!!
Sending you BIG HUGS, my friend~
Julie
