Fall In New England

Last Monday I had the day off so we took advantage of a beautiful day and headed out to lunch in a very quaint town.

spires reach for the beautiful blue sky

We visited a WW2 museum, I really thought I would be bored to tears but it was so interesting. they had it set up that each room was a year of the war. they had what was happening at home, what
children might get for christmas, the music and what was in the movies.

I thought this was pretty interesting that home prices were
about 2X the average income. Not so now.

To use up some of the apples we picked last weekend
I made apple butter...
I canned some for gifts. It came out so amazing.

In all of it's beautiful yummyness. I used
fresh ginger and cider, the apple comes through so well.

This piece has been giving me more trouble then
I can say. I think my confidence is gone and I don't trust my decisions. First the back ground was not dark enough, So I over dyed it with some med brown that was solved.

Then the letter looked to much like crayon so I cut the wool thinner, no luck, now I have taken two different browns let's see if that will work.
*****
Like most of you I have heard the scary awful news of this country.
I have my views why and what should be done or should have been done, but I guess that is for another time.
We have decided that to stay close to home is probably the
best thing. And pray a lot.

Coming events cast their shadows before.

I love getting out this time of year and fun to visit places, close to home. We went to the submarine museum today, that was fun and I do love history.

Cathy, I would love visiting that WW2 museum.
Talk about a trip down memory lane. I remember my parents talking about how it was and I remember ration booklets that were left over after the war.... As a child I was so frightened when i would hear a plane fly overhead. I would hide behind a tree stump or lay down in the tall grass. I remember sugar being rationed.

That price list is something else.

My husband was reminiscing when he was around 9 years old in the early 50ies and it cost 10 cents to go to a Lone Ranger movie. A gallon of gas was .29 cents, a bottle of pop was .07 cents and you got .02 cents back when you returned the bottle.
An ice cream cone was .05 cents, a box of Cracker Jack was .05 cents. Those were the days...

Your apple butter looks yummy on buttered toasts.
It makes my mouth water.
Have a great week.
Hugs,
JB

You live in a wonderful place...so beautiful! Love the apple butter, it looks delish! If you're referring to Ebola virus that's happening, as a health care worker I'm worried too. Prayers and staying close to home is probably a very good idea. I know I don't have any desire to travel except my son and his family live in Oregon and like it or not, I'm going to have to fly out one of these days....anyway, I will enjoy this time of year. Have a good week.

I like that you posted the prices from the year I was born. :-) I don't know what scary news in this country you are speaking of--there is so much I can't keep up! We have fallen so far that I don't know if we ever will get back the country we are familiar with.

I think the fall in New England must be just glorious with all the color. We have color here but so much rain and it's not as enjoyable. I love getting out on fall days. Fall is my fave season. I have a fondness for WW2 era and once had a 1940s museum kitchen room in my basement for the things I collected and loved playing old swing big band music while I lounged there at times. Re your hooking project, I'd love to do that. I saw a demo at a quilt retreat and bought a beginner basic project but didn't finish, somehow I got discouraged. I have TONS of wool that would be great for using but haven't pushed myself. Prolly should.
