This cookbook was traded into the book store. If anyone knows Hester (I love that name)Doyle from Oklahoma tell her she is a one funny gal.
This was put together by her it involves a lot of her friends and family recipes.
The book has 86 pages
The first 50 pages are desserts my kind of gal.
Why go for a face lift ladies when you can eat white bread,cheese, and sausage and get one:)
There are a lot of little tidbits like this one. I think I have translated Hester.
"The only reason that the family likes her dry old brownies is because she frosts them."
There is a recipe for brown sugar candy,she writes
"This recipe appears in the Oklahoman every year and I haven't had the courage to try it. Some day I will." That cracks me up! So much for kitchen tested recipes.
I did try her Grape Nuts Bread.
I will not make it again it is very dense and tasteless, it is ok slathered with butter.

We had a trip to the Dr's today and all is well. We got the ok to kayak and hike so I think that is on our to do list soon.

I "LOVE" these kind of cookbooks! I always SEEK OUT the WELL USED, Written in, Food Stained variety! Especially if they are vintage(like me)...Never trust a NEW OLD Cookbook(hehe, did that make sense?) I especially LOVE ones given as gifts with little Merry Christmas, Happy Birthdays or whatever the occasion is in it and cute notes they jotted down in penmanship obsolete these days! Can't you just picture HESTER??? and OH YES, I always WISH I could find the family that gave up these treasures...WELL, Maybe we love the books more and it's BEST we carry on their wonderful desire to please the palate and FEED those taste buds!!!

At first I thought it was sad that this cookbook was abandoned...then I thought maybe it was full of "not so good" recipes that Hester didn't even want it anymore! Have a great Easter weekend!
