Husband made me a gathering basket from a box from the grocery store.
And since my vegetables are coming around it is getting used.
I made a large pot of sauce and froze it in one
qt bags for future use.
I follow a British woman, Nancy Birtwhistle.
She showed how to use up the skins from the tomato.
I dried them in a low oven and ground them up.
I used basil also, I think this is genius! What a great flavored salt to use in cooking.
We are having some work done to our chimney, a liner in the flue, and a cap put on. I will be glad when it is done. This week husband and I are walking around in a fog. Saturday is the celebration of life for his sister who died unexpectedly. While she was not in our everyday life
it just doesn't seem real. Neither of us can stop thinking of her.
I made a cup of tea and sent a picture to my sweet grand who loves tea in a fancy cup. I am also painting up a storm some good some not so good, but it all keeps my mind busy.

The weather is cool and lovely I have cut more gardens back. We are still so dry it will be interesting to see how fall colors shapes up.

I like your rustic gathering basket. Nice to have a handyman husband :)
I am glad you got some veggies from your garden and was able to preserve them too we are finally headed towards a cool down but now we need rain-like the most of us-soooo dry here
I think the garden basket is great! Good job to your hubby!
Basil salt sounds wonderful. I have lots of basil and will have to look for how to make it.
Am sure your sauce tastes great! Homemade anything is always good. Interesting on drying the skins. The temps at night here are getting cooler with us opening our windows now. I even saw some trees already turning color. Thanks for the tip on the bee skep. I was planning on having Bob make me a bee skep house for outside and only leave it out in the Summer. Am hoping that works. Will see. Might change my mind now. Janice
I was just out watering all the gardens. The ferns have dried up and I cut back lots of those earlier last week. I don't want the perennials to die on me so I've tried to keep them watered. Yesterday was supposed to be a rainy day but we got very little moisture. The cool weather this week has helped. I may have to cut back some more perennials soon.
Good idea freezing the sauce. I use the whole tomato in my sauce and puree it with basil and onion to make sauce.
We are eating veggies out of the garden too. Sooo good!
My husband lost his aunt last fall. She was only a few years older than us. We still find it hard to accept. Take care.
What a great handle hubby put on the tote.
Thinking of you and David in this time of loss. Life is so very fragile ♥️
Belated condolences to you and your husband on fhe sudden family passing. We have been traveling and now playing catch up. Your homemade sauce looks great and sure it will taste delicious.
What a clever idea for a trug. I bet your kitchen has been smelling great and the sauce will be treasured in the cold months to come. I can only imagine what your husband and you are going through. Praying for strength and comfort for you in the upcoming days. (Great photo of the teacup!)
Oh, what a wonderful idea of grinding up tomato skins. No waste. How neat. Prayers of comfort for your family and husband's loss of a sister.
I love a good cup of tea. It can bring a quite solace to the soul.
I love the idea of tomato and basil salt. I will have to try and find her blog. The cup of tea idea is wonderful. My students are hosting a tea party for a local ladies group. I appreciate your husband's ingenuity. The harvest box is a great idea.
You used every part of that tomato! Sorry for the loss of your husband's sister.
what a wonderful gathering basket, looks like you really needed it!! your sauce looks great and that's such a good way to store it. i love the idea of the flavored salt!!
SO sorry about the passing of his sister!
