My tomatoes are finally starting to turn.
Russian sage is happy....
And so are my zinnias but that is about it..
I have had to cut back a whole row of hosta. A lot of my garden is heat stressed, the poor birches have changed color and are dropping its leaves
Friday we pretended we were tourists and headed down to the local restaurant on the lake. It was a lovely evening.
We have been teaching ourselves diminos which was a nice change from cards.
Tonight my neighbor treated me to a play "Menopause" at a local theater What fun it was!
Our ice maker broke so we were buying a bag of ice now and then. I thought that was crazy so I have all I need to make my own lol, saving pennies every day.

Have a great week!

I haven't had a working ice maker since we moved here at the lake house-the freezer i so full no room for ice cube trays though-sigh I do miss ice during these extreme hot days my marigold and zinnia seeds never made it with the extreme heat all summer-I really like those too as they bring in lots of pollinators. Happy new week
Ha ha...homemade ice cubes. That's funny...but then I started wondering how many people these days would remember the old way of doing them (with the aluminum trays with the lever....) Plants are doing so well here either. I think, though, it's due to my own neglect/lack of interest. Adding to that, I found out that the drip irrigation system I thought we had in some of the beds wasn't working...for a long, long, time. It's one thing to not get rain/have water - like not having phone service a few months back - but a completely different matter to THINK you have a working irrigation system/phone and not. It wasn't an issue when we had all the rain, but then the rain stopped. :-(
Oh those tomatoes 🍅🍅🍅 look so yummy!
Many many years ago I saw Menopause the Musical. It was delightful. I still remember these lyrics…my personal summer is really a bummer. I’’m having a hot flash.
My tomatoes are getting ripe too - picked 2 of them and a bunch of cherry tomatoes tonight.
Sad about your hosta. Ours aren't looking the best eather.
Hooray for homemade ice cubes! :)
Tomatoes are looking good and so are the flowers! Have a fantastic week!
That lake looks lovely. I make my own cubes. Never had an ice maker hooked up as I can remember (way back) the trouble my parents had with theirs. My cube trays are plastic but it's funny because as I was filling them yesterday, I was thinking about the metal ones with the lever as Robin mentioned in her comment.
I make my own cubes. We bought a fridge without an ice maker because our well water can mess it up. I have ice trays in red, white and blue! My sister got a counter top ice maker and loves it. I just don't want anything else on my counters! My tomatoes are ripening slowly but the peppers haven't done well this season. Love the beauty of that lake!
Hi Cathy. I love the pictures from your garden. We make our own ice too - the space for the refrigerator in our current house was too small for a fridge with an ice maker. Making the ice is my husband's job. The ice maker in the fridge in our old house went out and it was quite expensive to replace. Sounds like you had a good week. See you again soon!
Our family gets together to play Dominoes most Sunday afternoons. Whoever can come, it's always a lot of fun.
I haven't made ice cubes so far this summer but I do keep some tall glasses in the freezer.
You brought back memories of making our own ice cubes in those aluminium trays.
Ugh I hit submit before I finished. You brought back memories of those aluminum ice cube trays. We have a weekend here every Summer where the town promotes being a tourist in your own town by doing all of the things a tourist might do. Like visit the museums, beaches, boat ride on the river and restaurants. Your garden pics are beautiful. Mine are not the best. Not enough rain this year. Janice
We’ve been eating tomatoes for a few weeks now. So delicious! I love a fresh tomato sandwich! Enjoy!
Late maybe, but bet they will be delicious.
Have had only one refrigerator with an ice maker. It was a side by side model and icemaker took up so much of the freezer space we needed a standaone freezer. Since then we have managed without. Ice cube trays in silicone work just fine.
Oh, your Russian sage is beautiful and the zinnias! I came here from Days In My Life Blog. As someone in perimenopause/menopause I would have probably loved that play.
i didn't plant tomatoes this year and i really regret it. my other gardens have seen better days, my lawn also but we are getting rain today and hopefully a day or two of rain will brighten things up!! i have never had an ice maker, all of my life i have made it the old fashioned way!!
Our yard is mostly brown but a good soaking today and tonight, so it should spring back. I just water the plants that are new and veggies. Ours still makes ice, but the front part doesn't work, so we just pull it out for now.
Saving pennies everyday is a wonderful thing! Love that you still have berries!
Very cool that your grand is getting into photography! It's the best! I've been a photographer for a long time. Only now, I'm a student of the light and that's new to me. Learning light is a GAME CHANGER!
