And The Rain Came Down...

The flowering crab was just blooming, and the rain came down in sheets. It washed most of the blooms off sadly. There was sharp lighting and thunder. It was when the cold air hit our warm humid air. We are now in the 50s for most of the week. (We were in the 80s and a bit humid.)

My lady slippers survived thankfully! It has 8 blooms on it.

On Friday I cleaned all the winter dust and dirt off our porch.
And now it is already for our summer enjoyment.

How I love this porch we have morning coffee here and dinner most nights. And lounge around whenever we want.

I have much to be grateful for.

I went in the rain to the plant sale put on by the garden club.
I purchased a new pair of leather gloves, and a half apron made of linen also new. For just a few dollars.
Since it was a dreary drizzly day, I decided to make French onion soup. I got a deal on some short ribs that I put in also.

And oh, was it tasty!!!

I pulled some Rhubarb to make a simple syrup to add to drinks this summer. I will add it to some prosecco or some seltzer for a cool summer treat.

I got a walk in this morning before the afternoon rain. The mosquitos were very thick, so I did those 3 miles in record time.
I will end with this downed tree. When it grew it twisted. I find it so interesting. I have no idea what kind of tree it is.
Have a wonderful week.

I love Spring flowering trees, but so often the rain takes the blooms off too quickly.
After reading this, I want to come and eat some french onion soup on your porch with you! :)

Oh my goodness. I would take advantage of that porch every chance I got. Very pretty. The soup looks so yummy. We've had a lot of rain and expecting to get more.

Grace & Peace,
Pam

Lucky you to have that beautiful porch to enjoy daily. I am a wee bit jealous!
The lady slippers are so sweet.
Homemade onion soup sounds so yummy. So often in restaurants it is so salty you can barely eat it.

So pretty! We got rain here too in Montreal, and I was very happy to see it! There is a beautiful lilac tree not far from where I live...and every year it sprouts beautiful purple lilacs. Sadly, they shrivel up and die when it gets very hot and humid, and it breaks my heart. I agree with Pam, I would enjoy that porch very often!

Wow, I love your porch! What a cool place to have as part of your home. Your onion soup looks so delicious. We had a rainy day here in Utah, and our surrounding mountains got up to 17 inches of snow. I hope you have a good week!

Our rhubarb is growing well and will soon be ready for cutting too. A cake for the grandkids always starts our rhubarb season.

Have a great week.

I am sure you will be enjoying the porch and how nice too that it is enclosed. We always enjoyed the one at our VA home, but it was open so during bad weather we could not be out there, and mosquitoes were annoying as well. The French onion soup looked delicious and is a favorite, but never made at home, yet.

I love that porch. Something wonderful about porches, decks and stoooopes. I don't know how to spell stooooops. It's not stop like stop sign. But I can't spell. So there's that.

That lady slipper is amazing and I am in love with your beautiful porch. Isn't onion soup the best? And the easiest soup ever!

Oh how lovely your Lady Slipper is!!! I'm glad she survived the downpour. Too bad the flowering crab didn't fare so well. Your soup inspires me to make some too. I always enjoy French Onion soup 💗

I have some serious porch envy going on!! I would be living out there. My old flowering crab was gorgeous this year but, like you, along came the rain - and the wind. :-( It still looks pretty but not like it was. My weeping crabtree which is usually a showstopper isn't putting on the show it used to though. I think it needs a proper trimming (which I can't do b/c it's too tall). That soup looks AMAZING!!!! Even though I am a soup freak, that is one soup I've never made at home. (You mentioned ribs...you did not put them in the soup, though, did you??) And I'm always the odd person out when it comes to rhubarb. It was a staple at our house growing up, but I never acquired a taste for it. Have a great week!

Oh, my, so many of my favorite things! French onion, soup, rhubarb, gardening - LOVE your porch. I love the seating and the little whisk broom display - I’ve been wanting one of those! It looks absolutely charming-enjoy it all!!

I am green with envy...with both your saltbox home and covered porch. Wish I had both. There were three tornadoes that touched down here in Michigan last weekend. Thankfully not near us, but some folks lost everything. I also saw today that we have had 25 tornadoes this year already in our state....and tornado season has just begun. UGH I love rhubarb. Mine died so am hoping our local grocery store will have some soon. Your lady slipper is so pretty. Janice

We came home from a long weekend trip and had 2 inches of rain in the gauge. My garden club meets on Wednesday for annual potluck and silent auction. I'm taking cards I made (they were a big hit last year) and pots of cosmos to contribute to the auction.

Even if the rain took some of the blossoms off, it's still beautiful! I love your porch too! You always make it so inviting and how nice to be able to use it all day! I've never made French onion soup but yours looks delish! It's turned chilly and rainy here too. I put out some buntings on my fence but I noticed that the colors are running...seriously? Oh well, I may just have tied dyed bunting after the rain tonight! Take care Cathy!
