what I Did With My Snow Day

I made buttermilk biscuits in the morning.

We had them with ham and cheese mmmmmmm
Then it was lots of house work I will not bore you.

Then I transferred a pattern I want to start. I do not love doing this, it is not hard just time consuming.

Make sure you have it on the straight of the grain and use
nice juicy markers. hmmm not juicy enough I see.

So I went over it again.

And always end up with this! besides rubber gloves does anyone
have an idea how to avoid this?

The last of the laundry is in the dryer the house is clean
and I have my feet up watching food network having a treat.
Ok northeasters what did you do with your day?

Snowshoes

Bright and early Saturday morning we went to the hundred acre wood to snowshoe and meet a few friends from Story Land.

Yes this cutie little face belongs to Miss B. Her mom is putting
her into a pair of snowshoes.

Then  you snowshoe through the woods and stop along the way
and read a book, a page at a time. This time is was Owl Moon if you have not read it it is a lovely children's book. And as you can see the snowshoes are off Miss B. they lasted all of 30 seconds.
The best thing Miss B said to me on the way to snowshoeing
"Look at the mountains Grammie! they are beautiful"
way to melt my heart:)

Left to right son in law, husband, daughter.
This was husband's first time on snowshoes. He has a smile on his face.

So on To Sunday nice and sunny, 30's but windy. We strap on the snowshoes and off again,

We are both out of shape and to do this two days in a row
yikes! But we made it to the view.

Just so good for the soul!

We are tucked in with the fireplace log burning.

We had left overs for dinner, but had a wonderful salad with strawberries, pears, and Gorgonzola cheese ,to make it seem a bit fancy.

I just baked some apples and pears now for some amazing ice cream to top it all off.

How To make the string of hearts

I posted this string of hearts and had a couple of requests
on a how to. This is so simple to do.

First you rip some pages out of an old book. I found a couple the pages had yellowed it is a great look. I used cookie cutters trace
Any size you want.

I did several pages at once and I could fit more than one heart on a page.

Now you have a stack of these. On to the sewing machine!

I tried to do stacks of 3 hearts. Now don't fret if you get a stack of 4 in the end not that noticeable.

I start right in the middle and try for the point or as close to as possible. Then you have the next stack of hearts to go under the pressure foot before the first heart is completely through. So you get the couple of little loops of thread holding it together to make a string do not cut the string until you run out of hearts or it is as long as you want. A side note I did not have an issue with unraveling on the ends I never backed stitch.
So I hung them up and folded the hearts backwards so they are 3D.
When I hung mine I put a hole punch on the top heart and used one of the hole reinforces to make sure it would not rip.

I did the dragonflies the same way down the center but I also think I could have done them through the wings to make a string to put on the mantle.
I you have any questions let me know.

How Do You Know when You are Old?

I worked 11 and half hours today and I was so excited to be home before wheel of fortune was over. That is how you know you have finally crossed over into old :(

My Store hosted business after hours for the local chamber so I
spruced up the store a bit.

I made a string of dragon flies out of recycled book pages..

and a string of hearts, ok many strings of both and filled the store window with them when someone comes in the door they twirl and move. I just love them. I got a few compliments, that always makes me feel better.

I came home to a couple gifts in the mail, ok I bought them for myself...

but it was still very exciting to get nicely wrapped gifts.

This is a lovely Lapis bracelet

And this is a Red aventurine.

It comes with a explanation of the energy that each bracelet
holds. They are saged before being sent so only the good energy comes through.
It is only Tuesday and I have to work over time again tomorrow I am counting on that good energy coming through.

Staying In..

Do not let this sun streaming into the window fool you
it has been cold! We have not been above freezing for at least 2 weeks maybe 3!

Every Thursday my friend and I meet up and this week we headed a half hour south to hit a couple of stores and then out to dinner with half price drinks and apps. She has a BJ's card so in we went and this is one reason I do not have a BJ's car. Yes this is a box of a dozen croissants.  Oh have they been good for breakfast, sandwiches, etc etc etc :)

I made a nice big bowl of chili or as I call it clean out the frig. chili.
I use up any veggies I have left over. I also use beef so it is not a veggie dish but oh so good!

I also made a herb bread that came out pretty good.

I also put together a fruit salad. No dressing just yummy fruit
We have made a pretty big dent in it this weekend.

And since I am writing about food I will confess to chocolate
cupcakes with peanut butter frosting. So good but so bad.

Well some big football games today I want Greenbay and the Patriots in the super bowl.  Of course it is Sunday that means Downton Abbey!
I have made up a valentine pattern that I just started hooking tonight. I used this pan I got at a thrift just right for helping to design a rug.
****
When I came home from work on Friday that was the last time I left this house. there was lots of cleaning and lots of cooking, I also have been reading quite a bit. We are having an ice storm today and I have to be out for work tomorrow. I hope those of you with the extra day enjoy your time home.

Ladies Who Lunch...

To say it has been cold would be a huge understatement.
one morning it was -12 and it hasn't been above freezing all week.

And the sun has been hiding from us a lot! By Friday I
had the winter doldrums and knew I needed something fun.
***
I called a couple of friends on Sunday and the three of us  went to lunch.
It was good for all of our spirits to visit and just enjoy being out.

If you are a football fan you know this has been a big weekend.
I love football and my patriots pulled a win out of it with a very exciting game.

With a tea in hand I have been packing away the last of the the
Christmas decorations.

And I always make a mess of it not sure how to get better organized.

I am leaving my snow people out for awhile
it is so hard to have the house stripped of all the decorations.

I  have also kept my lights in the window
it makes me feel like I am chasing away the darkness. And added the hearts husband made for me.

Downton Abbey was amazing last week. I am so looking forward to this week. What I think is so sweet is David loves it too. He is so happy to put his feet up and watch with me.
****
We are in for a bit of snow tonight and not warming up much in the near future. I think more tea and another log on the fire is in order for this week. Stay warm my sweet friends.

Brrrrr.....

To say it has been cold would be an understatement:(

So I did....

My aunt gave me an avocado chocolate pudding recipe.
I have to say it is pretty good. Let me know if you are interested in the recipe.

I have gotten lots of new magazines in the past few days.
I am waiting for my primitive linen
so that I can get going on my rug. So for now I will snuggle under the covers and read magazines.
