The Christmas Rush

I know everyone is complaining of a commercial Christmas.
We decided years ago when we saw it getting out of hand to take a step back and enjoy the season. My daughter and I fill our stocking for each other with things we get free(samples) or things found at thrift shops or yard sales. You would be completely surprised at what we find through out the year. This little santa I got for .10 at the thrift I will fill with candy and put in Miss B's stocking.

1.00 for a great basket for the door, I will just go out in the woods and cut come evergreens to fill it and some red berries. All for less then I would pay for a wreath.

I also found these sweet little knives for a dollar. I bake bread and make compound butter or a home made jelly. One of these cute knives would look great with it.

And yes husband  and I will be elves for the polar express again this year. It is for a good cause believe in books. It is a great program to get books in kids hands.

I know we haven't had thanksgiving yet but just a little reminder to take a breath you decide how crazy Christmas is in your life.

Argh! Sirius radio already has 2 Christmas stations on. I love Christmas music, but not until after Thanksgiving.
Hugs :)

You have the right idea to keep the spending down. Christmas decorations and stuff are in the stores already and it's not even Remembrance Day yet. nI'm hoping to keep spending to minimum this year. I say that every years. Help...

I am visiting your blog via Primitive Stars and I want to say thank you for this post. It's the perfect reminder to slow down, simplify and enjoy. The shopping channels on TV are already too much too soon for me.

I love bargain hunting, always start now and sometimes earlier if I see something that I know someone will love.
It is great with people who like to collect, I keep my eyes open for items they like in the consignments.

I love autumn, the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons too, and they all seem to come and go so quickly, rushed and almost a frenzy of activity. When I was a child the opposite seemed true to me, the days seemed to pass too slowly the closer they got to Christmas and I thought it would never arrive. I have learned also that to enjoy Christmas I had to return to the true meaning of the holiday, to stop making it about the gifts which created work and more work.
Your thrift finds are so good and I like the idea of your stockings filled that way.

I am so in agreement with you about the second hand shops. I love it and find much treasure. I'm convinced we have too much stuff going to landfills. Also thanks for the sentiment you expressed in this post.

I love what you gift - that's a fantastic idea. I like buying thrifted things & later donating them for another lucky thrifter. Thanks

We've made it simpler each year. I tend to give gift cards...much easier for so many Grandkiddos and those that live far away. I still insist on atleast one gift to wrap for them and try to find something different and fun. I also use the internet for shopping...much nicer than racing through a mall! I like your idea of finding inexpensive but fun gifts...great tradition!

Our Christmas tradition is to make stockings and fill them up with kitten and puppy food and treats and drop them at the shelters.
Love the way you guys celebrate.
