Curtains..

Look what came in the mail today! I haven't even cracked the cover I want to
sit and digest it. I want a vintage travel trailer so much! husband is not so
sure about it and really it is not in the budget right now.

If you see the new Yankee there is a great article on the area we live.

My close friend is cleaning out her parents house this summer.
always hard.  I saw these curtains and loved them.
I believe her mother made them. They look great in my dining room.

I have been doing a bit of hooking but really bad news. I will run out of back ground:(
I usually figure it out pretty good but lord this hand cut is doing me in.
The picture was taken outside so a better idea of colors still a bit off though.
***
I have been texting my brother all day he is in the gulf port Mississippi area.
he said it is rough but not like Katrina was.
***
Great comments on the etiquette book!
so here is a little more.
My boy friend and I work together in this city, but we are going to my home, several states distant,
to be married. Is it all right for us to travel together in the train without a chaperon? It is an over night trip.
Yes, but preferably you occupy quarters in separate cars. and of course you observe all proprieties. The people in the train are now considered proper chaperone's to you.
Oh my goodness the times have changed!

Etiquette

Well not much happening these past few days. One yard sale I bought this picture for 1.00
It has an issue on the lower left corner but still a great find for 1.00.

I went into a thrift or use to be a thrift on my way to the drug store. Full blown retail.
sooo I will not be stopping there much any more. This book cracked me up it is from
1956 and thought it would be great blog material.
We did kayak the past two days, on the way out today we passed about 2 dozen wild turkeys.

and of course we saw loons on both ponds. On one pond there were 2 young loons
learning to take off which takes the whole length of the pond to get in the air.It is an amazing sight
***
I have been cooking up a storm lots of veggies so good this time of year.
To everyone in the south take care of yourself.
My brother is on the coast in Mississippi so I have a few prayers going his way.
***
Etiquette
Is it proper to smoke a pipe of any kind at a formal dinner when cigarettes and cigars are passed?
Yes, if one of the new, small dress pipes(really a dress pipe?) is used and the tobacco is mild.
boy how times have changed:)

Tomatoes By The Boat Load

Our tomatoes are starting to ripen by the boat load. I am on my own tonight
so it is a grilled sharp cheddar, tomato, and with our fresh basil. OHHH I
am so happy. I have a mike's hard lemonade to go with it perfect ahhhh.

Here are the DNA boys, I love this picture! My brother in law and sister in law came Sat
night to stay over. We went for a paddle, had grilled steak, and played some whist. Of course the DNA boys won. They tell us they are now one.

This is all I have from the thrift store. I would like to can some of my
tomatoes and make some apple butter and I thought this may come in handy.
I did pass up a very new pair of ski boots at the dump in the original box.
Since I don't ski and my daughter at this point very little
I left them for a skier to find.
***
My sister in law (husband's sister) wants to go yard sailing with me this weekend.
So she is coming on Friday to stay over so we can get an early start.
I am looking for modern canning things to help out with the cost of canning.
***
The weather is so amazing right now 80's during the day not a bit of humidity in sight.
nights get to be 50's so nice sleeping with the peepers in full voice.
I have been hooking if you can believe it.
But the shadows are getting long and I see more and more leaves changing.
I am so not ready to let go of this very humid summer yet.

A Very Busy Week..

It has been a busy week lots of fun but I am tired. On Wed a good friend and I
went for Italian and a catch up. On Thur I went to our women's group we all bring something
I found a recipe from Rachel Ray that I thought would work. It was a big hit  so light and fresh.

I got in the thrift store today as you can see I got a new talbot blouse it is pale violet and the
fabric is lovely new 79.50 Now you know that a new blouse like that you can't get for
.50 cents or a 1.00

No it was 3.00
A movie for 1.00 that we will likely watch this winter.
Speaking of winter we are having a cool down tonight yahoo.
I am tired of the humid weather. That is not normal for us to have so much.
***
We were up at 4am this morning heading to Boston. David is having a little blip
and they will take blood next week and decide what to do.
the Dr has stressed that it is not a health crisis so I am trying to take a big breath
and pray it will be ok.
When we were in the parking garage we met up with David's cute young nurse that
he had most of the time while he was in the hospital. Now that was last November granted
he was there a month but how many patients since has she seen. She recognized us right away with big hugs David kept saying how nice it was she remembered us. (It could have been his big drawer of candy she remembered:)
***
A busy weekend ahead David's brother and bone marrow donor and his wife are coming for an
over night. We always have fun good food, play cards and a little kayaking.
On sunday we are seeing Miss B can't wait.

Let us not look backin anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness.

All Buttoned Up..

I went to one yard sale and got this tin filled with

Buttons, Buttons,

and more Buttons. All for 2.00 yeah! It was funny I went to pick up what I thought was just a tin
and it was heavy and I had a hard time opening it, the woman standing next to me
was trying to see what was in it. I peeked in and closed the cover. She stamps her foot
and says now you have to tell me what is in that! I told her:) I had to ask for a price
so the man that was running between tables said oh give me 2.00 ok!

and this little creamer. I use them for cream, maple syrup, and any kind of sauce.
for .50 cents

A certain someone wanted to know how my rug is going so here it is.
The background has a bit more brown than it shows.
I am hand cutting so it is slow going and it has been humid.
***
We went to see Larry the cable guy on Sunday he is crude and rude but I couldn't help but laugh.
***
I don't know if you have noticed but the sun is setting earlier and earlier boo hoo.
while it has been a humid summer I will be sorry to see it go.

So Many Blessings

Well he did it again! I came home Monday and he was in the middle of cooking a beautiful meal. It was veal with orzo and a fresh carrot dish it was soo good.

We cleaned up and headed into town for the Monday night concert in the park.
We live in a resort area so there is music every week in the summer.

Then tonight we went for an ice cream for dinner and then to the park in
the next town for a fun night of 50's music.
***
Last night my amazing 2 friends took me out to dinner for my birthday.
we chatted and caught up on all that was happening.
I have many blessings in my life and my friends are at the top of the list.

Last weekend I bought a book for a quarter ( The girl who kicked the hornets nest)
A guy I know wanted it and traded me a 20.00 gift certificate to a local pizza place for it.
I got the better end of the deal. Hmmm what should I trade this for??? I guess it will be
a pizza:)
***
I have nothing going this weekend so I plan to clean the house top to bottom
and maybe get out in the kayak.
***
The young man I asked prayers for still is in dire need of them. They can not seem to pinpoint
what is wrong with him he  needs answers and a treatment I pray soon.

Something To Crow About

\
I recently won a give-a-way from Brenda AtThe  Rusty Thimble I just love my
crow!
sooo cute and a great way to start my birthday.

On Friday my husband picked flowers from my garden and delivered them to work.
which I thought was sooo sweet. That night we had Chinese which we never get because husband
doesn't like it that much but for my birthday he was happy to eat it.

On Sat my actual birthday I went to a sale and got
a couple of great things that have some age. Then I went to stay at my daughters to spend the night with my grand daughter and the grand dog. It was very hot so Miss B and I spent the day in her kiddy pool.
when she took a nap so did I! Every one kept saying are you sure you want to babysit on your birthday? I can't think of a better way to spend my day then with my favorite girl.

My daughter made me a cake and gave me a big stack of ones with instructions in the card of
all the things I couldn't spend it on. In other words just for me! I also had a gift card from mother's day so today when I got home husband and I went shopping.
Some good smelling soap and powder among other things. We are having very high humidity and in
Northern NH there are not many people who have whole house air. (So this will come in handy. I was looking for powder with the powder puff but no luck.)
usually we have one or two days of it and it's over but there has been a lot of it this year.
I really don't want to complain because I have seen on the news the horror the rest of the country
has had from this summer's weather. We have
had plenty of rain and everything is lush and great just
sticky yeck.

We hit a antiques mall and I found a piece of my pottery it is large and lovely and cheap.
I told husband with my money that was left I would treat him to an ice cream.
we went to a little place on the lake. They were having customer appreciation.
So we got a free hot dog and drink sat on the deck and watched the storm come in over the lake
the boats were going for all they could to get out of the storm.
We got our ice cream and ran for the truck.

Just as I was telling husband what a great birthday I had, in drives one of my
great friends who I haven't seen since new years day. She jumps out of the car and said I
heard it was your birthday and passes me some vintage Christmas ornaments!
Be still my heart. She lives in Maine and our paths just don't pass as much as it use to
when she lived in my town. Such a great ending to a great weekend.

you know we had to go to the dump during our trips this weekend.
I pulled this out of the metal pile. Hand painted and just great.
I also got miss B some sides to go on a bed so when she gets to a big girl bed she
will not fall out.

No Matter How You Slice it

It is hot and humid today one way I pamper myself is to iron my pillow
cases and my favorite night gown with rose linen spray.
I am planning on taking a nice cool shower and jumping into bed early tonight.

I got a new book from amazon this week. I am obsessed with vintage campers.
I want one but it is not in the budget right now but a girl can dream.

we went to a craft fair, there was a guy selling wooden spoons and knives.
I had never seen a wooden knife before so I bought it. It is made out of birch and
I thought it would look nice with homemade jam as a gift. Husband was not that happy
I paid for that he said I can make them you know. Sooo I guess there will be more.

Dump picking has been very slim but I did find this cute little lady bug
she still has her friction wheels under her.
***
We were on the road at 4:30 this morning headed into Boston for a 5 hour infusion for David.
It is something that boosts his immune system just part of the plan.
The Dr is happy with his progress but still a long day.
