My Spot of Spring

My forsythia is blooming yea! my little spot of spring.  Mother nature is going to pull a huge joke on April 1st. a nor'easter is on the way we are in the track of 7-12+inches of snow. with winds and possible loss of power. No I am not kidding I really wish I were.

But for today the sky is so blue and it has warmed up a bit. I took a walk after work. and sadie is out walking around the driveway.
I transfered a pattern that was in a rug hooking magazine. I changed it a bit to suite me and I am hooking it in colors I have hanging around that I thought I would never use. I am also using a new hook. I usually use a bent hook with a very small hook on the end. I use mostly monks cloth so this is really out of my comfort zone.
This is primitive linen and a large primitive hook. It is like driving a standard. I am trying to get the feel of it. I will post more pictures as I go. (shocking yellow I am just going to go with it.)
Today my daughter had to go back to work. She had 3 months off for maternity leave. I knew there would be tears. I remember how I felt going back after 2 months. She will be fine and so will miss baby her other grammie is her baby sitter. My daughter teaches so she will have school vacations and summers off perfect for a working mom.
Besides walking, I walked on the treadmill and did two loads of laundry today it really is amazing what I can get accomplished when I get off the computer.
so my qote for the day is..... Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow..Mark Twain

I love the colors on the rug you're hooking! I can't wait to see the finished product!

This weather really stinks doesn't it. My forsythia is starting to pop and I do have jonquils blooming, but it is cold and damp here and I keep hearing the word snow in the forecast. All I can say is oh poop!

I know...another nor'easter! Are they kidding?! Have they no shame? At first I heard rain/snow mix, then my husband told me that Unitil is gearing up for an onslaught! It's too cruel!

On a brighter note...your rug looks fun! Can't wait to see more! I heard from the hook-in and I'm in! (already blogged about it!) I look forward to seeing you there!

I'm envious...working out and laundry. I've done neither, which I'll regret tomorrow! LOL

Love your quote. We are experiencing the snow in Ohio as I type. It started at about 3 'o clock today and its still coming. We have about 2-3 inches so far. Bummer!

Oh your poor daughter. I can remember the first day back to work after I had my son. Cried the whole time I was getting ready for work. I lasted four months and quit.Became pregnant when he was seven months old so it made sense just to stay home. She however has the perfect career for raising a family. Wishing her much luck.

Cathy, I love your bright yellow tulips. It's a nice Easter pattern. What size is that hook It looks huge. I'm so glad that you and Courtney are meeting at a hook in. How cool is that? Have loads of fun.

I haven't looked at the weather forecast but today was beautiful. The snow has melted a lot today. We are at the end of March so maybe March is going out as a lion.

It seems unfair that they only gave your daughter 3 months of maternity leave. Is this the usual amount of time they give teachers? My daughter has a full year of maternity leave. It cost $40.00 a day just for day care for the baby so she's happy to stay home for a while and she is flying here in August for a while so I will be able to see little prince again.

I'll be off Blogger for a few days but I'll be back. Have a great week. JB

Cathy ~
I won't hook on anything but primitive linen with my Hartman hook. I'm spoiled! I think you will learn to love it.
We've got a good couple of inches of snow here in northern Ohio. The good news is that it won't stick around for long ~ I HOPE!
Pug hugs :)

Oh My 12 inches!!! Good thing forsythias and early blooming flowers are hearty! I was just reading the 1997 April issue of Victoria and Joanna Reed tends a beautiful 4 acre garden - but, in the winter time she creates beautiful works of embroidery of her memory of her flowers - what a delightsome activity!

Ahhh....I would love to have a forsythia. Yours looks so cheery. I love your rug. It looks like it is going to another gorgeous creation. I like seeing your process. Hope daughter does okay going back to work. What grade does she teach? When Baby Bee was born I only had to go back for 1 week before school was out for the summer. Helped make the transition a bit easier.

*****if your yellow is too bright, you can tone it down with a weak solution of purple dye. there is a technique of doing this after you have hooked the material in. try it and see what you think...it's actually like painting on
the surface. should you be interested i will write the directions out for you or anyone who would be interested.
don't worry about the hook...take you time with it but if you hook with a number 8 strip
the thick shank may be too much. they work well with the 8.5 cuts and above. good luck!!!
