My Spot of Spring

My forsythia is blooming yea! my little spot of spring.  Mother nature is going to pull a huge joke on April 1st. a nor'easter is on the way we are in the track of 7-12+inches of snow. with winds and possible loss of power. No I am not kidding I really wish I were.

But for today the sky is so blue and it has warmed up a bit. I took a walk after work. and sadie is out walking around the driveway.
I transfered a pattern that was in a rug hooking magazine. I changed it a bit to suite me and I am hooking it in colors I have hanging around that I thought I would never use. I am also using a new hook. I usually use a bent hook with a very small hook on the end. I use mostly monks cloth so this is really out of my comfort zone.
This is primitive linen and a large primitive hook. It is like driving a standard. I am trying to get the feel of it. I will post more pictures as I go. (shocking yellow I am just going to go with it.)
Today my daughter had to go back to work. She had 3 months off for maternity leave. I knew there would be tears. I remember how I felt going back after 2 months. She will be fine and so will miss baby her other grammie is her baby sitter. My daughter teaches so she will have school vacations and summers off perfect for a working mom.
Besides walking, I walked on the treadmill and did two loads of laundry today it really is amazing what I can get accomplished when I get off the computer.
so my qote for the day is..... Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow..Mark Twain

A 12 Step Program

Oh spring where are you? I miss you so. It has been in the 30's and wind  howling through the trees for days. It is cold and miserable. We have had snow flurries then sunshine. So I wonder were is the global warming and when will it get to New Hampshire?  This is a forsythia that I am forcing inside I am sure it will be the only time it blooms this spring.  Oh and a little up date. Sadie got the mouse!!!! yeah Sadie!!!
The only thing I got at the thrift store was this cutie.  it will look so cute on my porch. (if I ever get out there) and for 5.00 it was a keeper.
The dump gods have been good to me lately. I got this sweet cupboard, I plan on painting it and selling it. My husband has joined a furniture co-op so he is looking to rehab some furniture and make a little pocket money.
And this table was made in Vermont and is HEAVY it is rock maple I think. It had a note on it to call the person who dumped it he has 2 leaves but he has to find them. So I did and he will be looking for the leaves in the next few days. I am thinking paint.
And I got to see Miss Baby. Does she not get cuter by the day??? (says her grammie:) She is holding tight to Pepe. She is 3 months old. where does the time go? Her eyes are a dark navy blue she will have her mom's blue eyes. I must confess something when I see her I have to hold her and kiss her and snuggle. which doesn't leave much time for Pepe which is causing a bit of a problem. I say how can I share her? So I am joining a 12 step program for people overboard for their Miss Baby's wish me luck!

Why Mother Nature?????

Dear Mother Nature, Why? Why are you torturing me so? I need the sun and to see the grass getting green, I need to put my hands in the dirt and see things grow. Oh why Mother Nature I have been good!
This morning while getting ready for work. My Cat Sadie who normally looks like this and is 17 years old. Started running and skidding around the kitchen. I knew in my heart it can't be good. She stops and looks under a piece of furniture. I move the furniture and two little eyes look at me.
I scream and do a dance cause I don't want any mouse on me. Sadie goes in for the kill. She wanted to save her mom. The mouse looked dead and she is hitting it I yell "Sadie it is only playing!" Sadie didn't listen and it ran away and now one has seen it since. I text my husband to go home and check for it.
Nothing! and Sadie sits and looks around now and then but mostly snoozes. She is all worn out from her morning.Oh mouse where are you?

The Beach

Happy Spring everyone! We chose to go to the beach today to worship the sun and take a wonderful walk. This is a Maine beach. My husband and I grew up in a couple of towns over. When we were teens we could go to this beach and make a Bonn fire which we did with large groups of friends. Such fun memories.
This boardwalk takes you over to the beach.
Can't you just smell the salt air?
The water was so clear and COLD.
And of course let's not forget the moon. I hope you had a chance to see it. It lit up our whole house after the lights were out. We still have a lot of snow so the light just bounced off the snow.

I got to babysit all by myself on St Paddy's day. Oh we had so much fun.
I spent most of the weekend cleaning out closets, washing floors, etc. The house looks and feels so much better and I could still clean out more.
They are predicting more snow for tomorrow. Not much then it switches to rain. I am praying for the snow to go. We host Easter and have about 24 people here. It is no fun to have an egg hunt in the snow and we usually have a family soft ball game the kids especially love that.
Did you all had a chance to celebrate spring?

Happy St Patrick's Day

Happy St Patrick's day to you all! I hope the luck of the Irish follows you all the day.
I think some leprechaun was playing a joke today. we got about 4 inches of wet, heavy, slippery snow. My ride to work was interesting. Tomorrow 50's well that is New England for you. Spring this Sunday and still I can not see my lawn, not even a tiny patch. All those tulips and daffodils are just waiting to grow. I couldn't wait so I bought a little bunch to hold me over.
This is a boring post not much to report. No hooking has been done and not much at the dump or thrifting. So I will close with a quote that speaks to me..... Some luck lies in not getting what you thought you wanted but getting what you have, which once you have got it you may be smart enough to see is what you would have wanted had you known..... My Name is......

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and the time change isn't affecting you to much.
We stayed close to home and did a few things that have been lingering. Much of it cleaning and organizing. You have seen the bird feeder we have hanging outside of our big window. we have a small over hang and when it rains or the snow melts off the roof ,the water goes right in the bird feeder. My husband came up with the new hanger so I can pull it in to fill and also pull it out of the way of the water coming off the roof. He is pretty smart don't you think !

I tackled my wool closet. Now to say I have to much wool is an understatement. I am almost ashamed to show you how much wool I have. If I hook every day from now until I turn a 100 I would never use it up. So my name is Cathy and I am a wool hoarder.............

It did feel good to clean out closets and get more things ready to go to the thrift store. My craft room is almost inhabitable. I love to cook but I am a fly by the seat of my pants girl. That means no recipe, it also means that I my never make the same thing the same twice. I also use up what we have and throw out very little. So stale bread becomes bread crumbs or croutons. I made these croutons and we had them on salad this weekend and not to brag but they are amazing! My husband looks at me as says you don't remember what you put on them do you? Yep he is right ,I remember some of it but not sure I remember it all. I do know it is made from french bread, garlic and ???? not sure. Does anyone else do this?
My prayers are with the people of Japan but I have had to stop watching the news. I was becoming so anxious about those poor people. Have a wonderful week everyone and welcome to my new follower.
and thank you so much for all of your comments I enjoy each one so much.

Oh Spring Where Are you?

I found a sweet little book that is a reprint of one of Tasha Tudor's books "A Tale For Easter"
I love her art work it has such a sweetness about it.
As I sit here I can hear the sleet hitting the window. We have had it all today, snow, rain, and sleet, I am ready for spring.
I watched hoarders again last night not sure why I do that because it always freaks me out. I now have a good size bag headed for the thrift store. With the cleaning and the bag headed out of the house I feel better. So if you see spring send her this way, I have missed her.
I haven't closed with a quote in awhile, I thought this appropriate:
Weather forecast for tonight: dark.    -George Carlin

A New High or A New Low?

Happy Wednesday everyone! A friend of mine called and said I have EGGS! I know you can't see the color but some of the eggs are the palest gray blue so pretty.
And I got to see Miss Baby! She has grown so much in the two weeks since I have seen her. She now follows your face and laughs. 10 weeks today and that is Frank the frog her new best friend.
I got this garden statue at the dump. But in a slightly different way. I was throwning my garbage in the dumpster and a guy backs up with a big load. I walk by and see this. I walk up to him and ask if it is broken and is he throwing it away? He said no it is not broken and yes you can have it, can I put it in your car for you? Ha! Now is that a new low or a new high? I think she had a bird glued to one of her fingers so I am on the hunt for a bird. she is plastic and a bit to fancy for me but I will paint her and then pass her on.
The weather man is calling for snow and then a fair amount of rain. More flooding in the forcast.
I am off to start hooking my cat rug. well I will probably get to sew around it tonight and that is about it.
Have a great night.

What A UFO!

I bought this bag of wool some time ago at a thrift store. Most of it is dyed in swatches which I rarely use. I plan on using it in my next rug.
I have been going through the drawers of stuff I have and found a UFO. I pride myself on not having UFO's . This is a pretty small rug and I want to finish it up so this is my next project. But I have to pull out all the hooking. I have no clue where that wool is now and I used a cut that is to big for this rug. I think I will change the border do you have any ideas?
It was back to work and a pile of paper work today. We have been getting rain since we landed with all the snow it flooded. I had to go north to be able to go south, sounds complicated it was. I had to go over an old covered bridge. I held my breath the water was rushing under it with ice dams it was a bit nerve wracking. Today is my close friend's birthday, she was so kind to take care of my old cat while we were  away. So for her birthday I am signing us up for a hook in,  April 30th and May 1st, my other friend offered us her beach house and my husband the great guy he is has offered to take care of her dogs while we are away. So I am very excited for the both of us.
On a very sad note the young woman who I asked you to pray for has lost her battle with cancer yesterday, 29 years old. My heart is broken for that family as her struggle is over but theirs is not.
I am off to bed, I am not a good sleeper but I am going to give it a try. nightie night : )

Home Sweet Home

This morning I was standing in front of this waiting for the van to take us to the airport. It was sunny and warm.
vacation was wonderful we had so much fun. We went to Down town Disney 2 nights for all the sights and sounds.
You would think it was a statue but think again...........
And you would think this is a statue but think again....... both are young people made up to look like statues and when someone would come near them to take pictures they would move. It would scare the kids to death.  But pretty funny.
We left all the flowers and sun shine.
We really had the best time and I am very thankful to have such wonderful friends who continue to invite us along on vacation. So we are home to this dark, drizzle, dreary and I am always glad to be home. I could not be a world traveler I am to much of a home body. I love our week. But there really is no place like home.
The one thing I would recommend is Cirque Du Soleil. It was the most amazing show I have ever seen and really TV doesn't do it justice.
While I was away on vacation I got a new follower welcome and thanks for following along. I look today and I lost a follower. I guess I am boring.
I hope you are all safe from the storms that are going across the country and thanks for reading about my vacation. I promise no more boring pictures. I will go on to bore you with baby pictures I can not wait to see Miss Baby.

What I did on part of my winter vacation.

The weather amazing let's just say it hit 80's for the first 3 days. This is sunset our first day.
 The flowers beautiful!
 The water warm and wet!
 The birds beautiful.
and the fireworks in Epcot beautiful.
Lots of sun, lots of games, lots of swimming, have lots to tell. I will be home soon to the cold north brrrrr, but for now thanks for letting me share a bit of my winter vacation. Off to Cirque Du Soleil tomorrow night so excited.
